Hi. I’m a martial artist, I do karate. Other than the basic drills e.g. kicks, punches, etc. my instructor makes us do some bodyweight conditioning (which is easy for me, coming from a wrestling background).
I’m looking to find more challenged conditioning choices, but at the same time, I need to keep in respect that I only have access to a playground and grass fields.
I wouldn’t recommend anything by Matt Furey to my worst enemy. Save your money, he doesn’t need it. Some of the best bodyweight conditioning can be found in some of Karl Gotch’s books and DVD’s, which are pretty incredible. Pavel has some good stuff, and +1 for Ross Enamait who has some solid training advice. There’s an excellent website with a lot of good stuff, it’s by Tyler Hass. He doesn’t update it anymore (not sure why), but the advice in the archives is pretty awesome.

Sherdog
I second this but look in the forum under conditioning and read the stickies.

Yep. I rarely read anything but the stickies in forums like these. Most of the stuff is just rambling, plus most answers are by unqualified people.
I have a 4th Dan in TKD, have studied Kina Mutai for years, and have been lifting for decades…but how would anyone know that my opinion has any more value or merit than a random teen in his mom’s basement?

I heard Furrey made 7 figures off his shit… amazing.
I did some research and he seems to be a rather slick/shady guy. Amazing businessmen however. “Combat Conditioning” is the only product of him I know, and I do think it’s a good introduction to BW training for a raw beginner, that’s why I mentioned it in my post.
However, you guys are right, OP would be better off with some Ross/Pavel stuff. The article section on dragondoor.com provides a wealth of information as well.
I’m tellin you guys as a taekwondo instructor the best articles I’ve seen for bodyweight training are at Gymnastic Bodies is the way to go for bodyweight training especially if you have access to a park. The only equipment they ever use is stuff that most parks already have. Which by the way the author/creator of has had all of his articles also featured on Dragondoor, thats actually how I found out about it.
8weeksout.com - joel jamisons site. Cant rep it enough. dude trains franklin, sakurai, pulver, and many others. While many coaches may say “oh i work with mma fighters” who the fuck have they trained.
Though if you mean specifically for your sport ie karate, authors from that background can help alot too. Nice to seem some tkd guys here. Its my life.

Forget sherdog Go to bullshido.net - they got a gamut of posters that actively compete in MMA, grappling/Judo, boxing/kickboxing, KK and other full-contact sports. They have a lot of info on conditioning for combat sports.
