After working out with Scrawny to Brawny and gaining around 20 pounds, I decided to move on to Rippetoe’s starting strength…
I started working out last week and it seems to be going well except for a few problems I’m having.
I never seem to get along with bench pressing, ever since I first started working out.
I felt I wasnt growing from them, but I continued doing it and the weight increased very slowly, but i think it was all in my arms…
Anyhow I got a tip that I should maybe raise the bar up a little closer to my neck and press from there.I just started doing this and I think I felt more of a stretch in my pecs… I guess I’ll wait and see if it helps
But the press still is a bit sloppy. maybe im using too much weight? I can lift it, but by the fourth set (im doing 5x5), it gets hard and my neck strains a little, as I try to get the bar up evenly with both hands… is that a bad thing?
And am I supposed to hold my wrists still, or allow them to bend back when I lift -cause I hold them still.
And worse I tried tucking my elbows in and discovered that if I do so, my elbows hurt when I press.
And then theres the dips… I used to do dips in S2B and it was great. I started doing dips now and, I found that an area under my armpit was being hurt everytime I went down in the dip. maybe its just a one time thing from started to work out and stuff, maybe it needed to stretch
And again maybe not.
This all sucks because I just literally finished going to the doctor last week because my right shoulder was hurting very slightly.
Now I have to go again!?
It’s annoying, and sometimes depressing to go and work out hard and spend time only to find that something hurts somewhere…
Well… other than that the workout went great. I did the deadlifts just fine, although I scraped my shins a little from them, but thats nothing to complain about…
And the sqauts went fine… I think
