Check Out This Site!

“Mikerob”, in another thread, mentioned this Ball State University site for videos on how to perform a wide variety of exercises.

Ya gotta check it out here</a

And for anyone that’s ever tried a glute-ham raise, check out how incredibly easy this</a
dude makes it look!

The guy goes down nearly horizontal, barely touches his fingertips, and raises back up - twice!

Another guy does a hang clean where he drops the barbell to the floor, it bounces up about three feet back into his hands, he catches it, and then does another.

Help me out, Goldie, and all you other power lifters - is this a common feat?!

If so, y’all are definitely my new heroes!

Thanks for the site, Mikerob!

WOW,
this site was pretty neat Mike! Thanks for the link! This is something t-mag should put into the forums as I think it would definetely be used by ALOT of people!!!

Well, we don’t do a lot of cleans as PLers (some do a bit), but as far as the GHRs, I wasn’t all that impressed. So, um, yeah, that’s what happens when you train your hamstrings to be strong.

Thanks for the link Mike!

Having weak hamstrings I was impressed by the glute ham raise. It’s always nice to see other people excelling…it’s great motivation.

“but as far as the GHRs, I wasn’t all that impressed.”

Really, Steve? Why not?

Keep in mind that in regards to most Oly lifts and power lifting in general, I am a complete newbie to it.

However, I am becoming more facinated with it, can see now why so many are into it, and am trying to learn more about it. And when it comes to the glute-ham raises, I’m on the outside looking in, because those bitches are hard!

And that’s why I’m facinated with the Ball State site.

I think GHR’s are easy. Can rep them out + weight usually. Like Steve said, thats what happens when you train to be strong.

Just FYI, one of the guys who helped put this site together is Mike Robertson, who authored the back article on T-mag this week.

I’m a pussy.

i was not impressed by the videos of olympic lifting on that website. i would look for lifts of world class lifters; you can find them on the internet.

i know little about proper deadlifting and power lifting style squatting…are those videos good?

I’ve seen this site before. I disagree with how they show the proper way to do a Romanian DL. I think the bar needs to be right up against the shin. This guy has the bar away.

The power versions of the Olympic lifts that they show are actually the full squat versions of the lifts, so that’s wrong as well.

I have my questions about the conventional DL that they show. It seems that the guy uses too much of his back and doesn’t have his hips down enough. Maybe that’s just the way he’s built. I don’t think it’s necessarily wrong, I’ve just seen better technique.

Don’t worry Mike.
I am also a pussy, I cannot even due a GHR.

I’m working on it though…

Don’t feel bad for being GHR pussies. Many of us have been there. As long as you keep working at it, you’re not a pussy.

Ok, I shouldn’t have to do this, but I feel I need to defend my site a little here:

  1. This wasn’t made for Elite olympic lifters. We are strength coaches and powerlifters first and foremost. JC (the guy in the pics and videos)has pretty darn good technique and excellent flexibility for someone who has powerlifted competitively for 12 years.

I discussed this with several Olympic lifting coaches while receiving my USAW certification, and before they knew that it was my site they stated how thorough it was, even if everything wasn’t totally up to par as far as Olympic lifting terminology and performance goes.

  1. The guy doing conventional deads is 24 and totals over 1900 in USAPL. He’s a freak and also deadlifts over 700 pounds with reasonably short arms. He could use more leg drive, but his back is immensely strong and therefore he uses more back than some might.

  2. The RDL’s can be done in either fashion, with the bar close to or moving away from the leg. The key is keeping a neutral spine and an excellent stretch on the hamstrings.

Since we’ve developed this page, there have been millions of hits and I’ve gotten tons of excellent feedback. I hope I’m not being too defensive, but the amount of hard work and labor to produce this web page was incredible. Please don’t put something down that was created (for free) to educate the weight training community.

Bitchin website,

It’ll stay in my favorites from this day forth.

Thanks Mike

B.

Both Ko and I often refer to this site to get the basic idea of a particular exercise.

And we often refer others to it. It’s a extremely helpful site. I also go to this one Oly-lifting site that’s just damn awesome (contains vids and step-by-step photos of lifts), too.

This site is awesome! Mike shared the link with me a while back and I have used it to instruct many of my internet clients.

While there may be a few minor criticisms of the form on some exercises, if you spend enough time in the gym you’ll realize that different bodies require the use of different body positions that may seem less than textbook. That doesnt necessarily make them wrong.

Sorry if I came across in the wrong way in my post further up; I wasn’t trying to put down the site at all…I was simply pointing out that being able to do multiple GHRs, etc, becomes the norm when PLing.

Didn’t come across wrong at all, Steve. Let’s just say it’s a real motivation to guys like me who are ready to explore a different way of training.

Thanks for posting, Mike. I think you probably gathered by my initial post, and the fact that I started a new thread hyping it, that I, like Brad, have saved your site to my “Favorites”.

Very nice, never seen anything this complete on the net.

I wish they played music like that at my gym.
