How the heck do they know? Did they take a blood sample and run a DNA test on any virus found in it?

H1N1 is a flu like any other flu and unless they do that they can’t tell. Any flu or set of symptoms that a kid comes to school with is getting diagnosed as “Swine Flu.”

Buncha crap if you ask me.

And you’re smart to stay away from any shots for flu. At best they are useless and at worst they contain uncontrolled substances that can actually make you worse or give you the disease(s) you’re supposedly being inoculated against.

As you’ve discovered.

I am sorry that she’s not feeling well too.

After a bit more investigation, it appears that the Pediatrician made a leap here. So far there have been no documented cases of “typical” flu in this part of OK. Since the only ones seen so far have been H1N1, she is ASSUMING that is what it is.

Yeah, the shots are useless and, as you said, likely the culprit in many ailments. A co-worker of mine said that he had to get one every year while in the military. He had the flu several times during that time period. Since getting out, 15 years ago, he hasn’t had a flu shot and hasn’t had the flu.

GPP for the day - moving my Sister-in-law. Since it is a college football Saturday, that would normally have been an issue. BUT, since it was my house that she was moving out of, I made the sacrifice  She has been living with us since March.

Hooray! Now I can run around the house in my boxers! Or, if I am feeling uppity, I can run around in Spiderman, Superman or DCA underoos! …lol

That might be worth missing the Superbowl. And you might as well get uppity.

No doubt! It wasn’t that bad having her around. But it did change the normal flow of things.

LS, even if your daughter has H1N1 she will be ok. It’s only effecting people with pre-existing health issues like diabetes.

I can’t wait to see how strong you get with the 5/3/1. I think you have huge potential. Especially with deadlifts.

Congrats on (soon)running around in your boxers. I do it every night. Sometimes I lift in my boxers and nothing else.(to much info I’m sure)

eco, do you work in healthcare? For some reason I seem to think I remember reading, somewhere, you saying that.
The only one we would worry about getting it is my wife. Her asthma used to be atrocious…until Advair. That stuff is just short of a miracle.

Lifting in boxers…hmmmm. That is now a distinct possibility. But, I promise to put shorts on if I take video. Just want to say that up front so no one is afraid to click the video links.

I am gonna deload this week and officially start 5/3/1 next Sunday. Might be a good time for a new log and a name change…

I do cardiac ultrasounds(echocardiograms) and vascular ultrasounds for a living. My wife is a nurse and I read a lot. Your wife should get both the regular flu shot and the h1n1 shot. But talk to her doctor first because I only do ultrasounds. I’m getting the shots and having the kids and wife get them as well. Just to be safe.

Liberate yourself and lift in as little as possible. I won’t tell.

Healthcare is a different world, isn’t it!? I work in a hospital, as a network admin, not patient care, but the environment is just a bit different than anywhere else I have worked. Also, the insight you get into the medical profession is kind of eye opening.

Deload Day #1 - in prep for 5/3/1

Static stretching
Treadmill - 10 minutes - to warm up the knees
YTWL
Dislocates
Windmills

Squats
bwx10x2
barx10
135x10
185x10x2 - ATG - holy cow! I have zero endurance. These had me sucking wind hard! As has been said by others, more than 5 reps is just torture. Makes me worry about the BBB on these.

DB Laterals
15x10x2

DB Rear Delt Raises
15x10x2

Military Press
barx15
95x10x3 - right shoulder was tweaky even with this weight. MP will definitely have to remain an assistance exercise for the time being.

Daughter is doing much better. Fever is all but gone, headache has faded, cough is even better. So far no one else is symptomatic.

Pick your BBB weights wisely, LS. Go light and work the movement not the weight. get the groove and the endurance will come. I’m looking forward to seeing how the 531 program works for you.

Great advice. Since I am going to be doing this for a while, I figure I will start at 135 for the 1st workout. Then 155, then 185 for the last full workout before deload.

Question…under BBB, is it desired to do all 5 sets with the same weight? As in, better to do 155x10x5 rather than 185x10x2 and 155x10x3?

You can do what ever you want on the BBB assistance, but I would start at 40% of your training and do 5x10 straight sets. You can increase the weight as you progress, but this is a good place to start and build endurance. I would think in terms of 5 pound jumps on BBB during the wave rather than 20 until you get a feel for the program and the volume.

Some people use a ramp-down on the assistance. For example, if you got over 10 reps on the money set, use that as a start for set 1 of BBB and drop the weight each set so that you can still hit 10 reps. I feel that is too much for me and would kill my recovery.

The 135 would be 40% of my working max. So it is a good place to start. I will have to play the jumps by ear. I think, after a few workouts, when the volume is no longer putting my body into shock, I can jump more than 5#. That might be wishful thinking, though.
As it stands right now, 10 reps with body weight is mildly fatiguing.

I was already in awe of your 17 reps. Now even moreso!

I agree. For me, at least, I would be shot for the rest of the week if I did that.

I don’t know why, but I feel that my greatest progress, on squats, is going to come from the BBB, not the ME working sets. It feels like consolidating my gains and getting ready for another big push.

Edited to add: I must have caught a fever from my daughter. I am actually looking forward to the squats. I HATE SQUATS! At least I think I do!?

Its all greek to me, but Ill be watching.

Hey, 63G. The protocol itself doesn’t seem like Greek. Putting it into practive will, though. I’ve never used workouts quite like it lays them out. We’ll see… Seeing the progress made by soldog, jjack and others does give me hope.

Deload Day #2

Daughter is all better. She went to school, yesterday…no fever, no congestion, and very little cough.
Unfortunately, now I have something… No fever, but headache, body ache, congestion, chest discomfort, fatigue, etc… I actually feel better today than yesterday, though. So either I am putting up a good fight against the flu, and winning, or I have a bad cold. In either case, I should be back at work tomorrow. Yes, I stayed home, just in case, so I don’t potentially spread the flu.

Last deload on Thursday. Hopefully the ailment will be gone by then so I am rested and 100% for Sunday’s 5/3/1 start.

Also, the rep sets on squats, Sunday, are still haunting me. My quads, glutes and hammies are sore as heck. I have been doing a lot of stretching, trying to loosen up. The lower back feels, almost, recovered. I will go really light on Thursday, in hopes of full recovery by Sunday.

Funny that your shoulder feels best with wider grip. That would bother my shoulder. Closer grips are best for me. Looking forward to seeing what you can do after this de-load. I bet the deadlift gets real close to 600.
