Chasing Big Strick

Thanks mcl. I may use the BBB for squats, as I can REALLY use some endurance in that department.
FF - its like sitting around watching a train wreck, isn’t it!? You just know it is going to derail. The wager is when

Hel- looks like your grandpa worked for a living…and ate enough to benefit from it. Looks solid. You’re papa is a strapping young man. (Never have figured out where that expression comes from, but it fits. Guess I’ll have to Google it.) I see where you get it!
Yeah, Big Strick was a hoss. Unfortunately, he liked coke and sweets a bit too much. Once the weight was there, Diabetes was soon to follow.
A lot of how you talk about your family reminds me of mine, growing up. Everyone in the same town…always visiting and helping one another out with this and that. Good memories. Now, unfortunately, we are scattered from Hell to breakfast.

Okay…question for the 5/3/1 crowd. I don’t want to go over 3 days a week, and I don’t want a cycle/wave, whatever you call it to extend beyond a week. I have been thinking of grouping Bench and Military on the same day…especially since my shoulder isn’t really going to let me do proper military at present.
Any thoughts on this?

Also, I am thinking ordering the workout thusly…
Sun. - Squats
Mon. - Off
Tue. - Bench/Military
Wed. - Off
Thu. - Deads
Fri. - Off
Sat. - Off
repeat.

That look okay? My thought being that Deads are going to be the most wearing on the body, so I don’t want to start with them and fry myself for the rest of the week.

I would suggest going really light on the MP and grouping it with the squats. I think the bench night alone will be more that enough for your shoulder. You might even think about treating the MPs as assistance work.

That would work well. My only reservation was doing MP 2 days before bench. But, if I go light, that shouldn’t be a problem. And, since the shoulder is flaky, light won’t be an issue.
Thanks, soldog.

I go deads Tues, bench Thurs., and squats and press on Sat. It has worked well for me, although when skiing winds down I am going to go to 4 days a week with military on Sun. This will allow me a day to get some more ab work and junk assitance in. I agree with Soldog, I would not pair bench with press. If you pair squats and press and go with BBB assistance, that is really all the work you will want to do in one, , so you will need to figure where your other assistence work will go.

Yeah, it’s the assistance that is hard to figure out. I am probably going to have to pare back on some of my exercises…or rotate them.
I worked up a tentative plan that gave me 4 exercises per workout day. After warmups I would have 14 sets on Squat/Military day, 12 on Bench day and 12 on Deadlift day. It will be hard to tell how this will work without doing it.

Just try it and be flexible…

LS, don’t overthink this. As long as you do the main exercise the rest is gravy. Don’t be afraid to change the assistance exercises on the fly. Even the rep range or number of sets can be changed. Just hit the reps on the big exercise.

I have a bad habit of over thinking everything. I will take the advice, though…main exercise and gravy.
I’m definitely going to try the BBB with squats. That would be way too much on deads, though. I would never walk upright again

Also, given the way my glutes, hams and lower back feel right now, I think I am going to take a deload this week. I want to start this fresh and there is no way I am going to be fully recovered by Sunday.

Oh well…just found out that my daughter has the H1N1 Virus (Swine Flu). Public schools! If they aren’t indoctrinating you, they are infecting you.

Sorry to hear that - you should now work from home for a week to avoid infecting your office, that’s what I’ve done this week and they seem to appreciate it.

I considered that. But my boss is stuck in the 50’s and doesn’t like folks working from home, even though I can do 99.9% of my work remotely. So, I will end up going in…and making sure I visit his office often

make a point to tell him that your daughter has H1N1 and then sniffle and cough in his office…

Swine flu is no biggie, unless she gets secondary pneumonia. Watch very very carefully for that, then its serious.

Unfortunately my boss is one of those that, if it weren’t for him, it would be a really good place to work.

I’m not overly concerned about her being sick. The pediatrician said to bring her back, Monday, if her fever is still there, as it is indicative of a secondary infection. I suspect if Healthcare Reform were not the issue of the day, the media wouldn’t pay so much attention to it.
My wife said the pediatrician went into calm the parent mode, until she realized that my wife hadn’t been sucked in by the hype.

Hey sorry to hear about your kid.

Are you on the 53.1 wagon as well, am I the ONLY person here not doing it?
truth be told soldogs progress should be enough for most of us if not all to have faith in it.

LS, I hope your daughter sails through without any complications. Definitely vist the boss’s office often!

Yep. Watching how it works for soldog is one of the reasons I am ready to give it a go. If I can have half as much success, I’ll be pleased.
I would say happy…but I am never happy :expressionless:

I’ll be interested to see if I get it. I have only had the flu once in my life. I caught it 4 days after getting a flu shot…the only flu shot I have ever had. I’ll never get another.

aw shucks guys - my ears are burnin’
