Has anyone tried taking this or think its a good idea for someone who can’t sleep 8 hours?
Almost every single night without fail i get up at least once to go to the bathroom. I really can’t remember the last time i went to sleep and woke up the next morning without getting up once while sleeping. I limit water to sips or none at all in the last meal but it doesn’t seem to change it that much, i still have to get up.
Any suggestions? I want to make sure I’m resting enough and even when i take a small nap during the day I’m still pretty tired and would rather get 8 straight hours anyway.
I have the same problem with getting up numerous times during the night to go to the bathroom, and it’s awful!! I’ve tried melatonin and it only seems to work for a few days at a time. It’s not intended for prolonged use because your body adapts.
Waking up to pee is no biggie, especially if you fall right back to sleep. If you drink alot of water during the day expect to wake up at night atleast once to pee.

lol thanks, im planning not to like you guys suggested. Its just this particular thing is a somewhat different issue and i figured here would be the best place to ask about it
so basically you guys are saying the melatonin isn’t going to help much because i’ll get used to it? Its really annoying because lets just say i go to sleep at 1…i’ll get up at 6 and go to the bathroom then at like 8:30 and then wont get back to sleep. so basically im getting 7.5 hours of sleep and having to go to the bathroom at least once during that time which i’ve heard interrupts REM sleep which is apparently the most important (dont know too much about that though)

7.5 hrs of sleep isn’t bad. I wouldn’t worry about supplementation at this point.
Now if you were getting 5-6 hrs sleep, then you would probably want to make sure you’re taking full advantage[/quote]
yea i usually am ok with it but at least try to get a nap occasionally. Lately it seems to be more so though with getting up. Also i’ve been more tired lately but idk if thats from the lower carbs or not. i’m thinking i’ll have more on friday (workout day) for the first 3 meals instead of just pre/post workout and see if i have more energy from that but in general i’ve never had much energy problems with low carbs before
anyway so you guys dont think melatonin is necessary at this point?
I’ve played with melatonin and figured it’s best to leave it alone.
It has some bad side effects if you look into it. I don’t think it’s a good idea to daily take a hormone that is used by the brain. lol
If you think frequent urination is a problem check your prostate and see if you could possibly be a diabetic. Those being serious cases of course and I doubt it’s either.
From your example it doesn’t sound like you’re waking up because you have to pee. Go to bed earlier. If that’s not an option, try darkening your room or wearing a mask. Of course you then might have problems waking up…

why does it not sound like a problem with me having to pee? last night i went to sleep at 1 and woke up at 4 and 8 to piss and never got back to sleep. very annoying lol.
maybe i’ll try that ZMA, why would that help though?
oh and i have been tested for diabetes i think around a year ago and they didnt find any problems
I’ve never found Melatonin to be especially effective. I was on a plane once and got talking to the man next to me who turned out to be a doctor (a gastroenterologist to be precise) and he offered me a melatonin tablet and asked me if I thought it worked. I told him I’d never found it to be that helpful but he swore by it.
He said that he and his doctor friend were divided on whether it worked on not and couldn’t setlle the matter because there had been almost no proper (peer-reviewed) reasearch done on it in the medical world. This was 4-5 years ago now.
I have had sleep problems for a while. The worst was trouble falling asleep. I did not have any luck with melatonin either. I know use ZMA and 5-htp. I still wake up for 1 or 2 bathroom trips, but fall right back to sleep, where before it would take 30-60 minutes.
