I’ve had problems for many years in this area.
Using TMG allowed me to discontinue using Ambien. It is better, for me, than that pharmaceutical, though it must be said that Ambien was not extremely effective for me. TMG works by serving as a methyl donor, and for many people availability of a methyl donor is a rate-limiting step in the production of serotonin.
Z12 is also very good for me. The combination is definitely better than TMG alone, or when not having any TMG I had better have the Z12! And will do reasonably well with just the Z12, but not as well as when combined with the ZMG.
For some muscle pain problems lately I’ve been prescribed cyclobenzaprine. (Soma, or carisoprodol, works the same way.) This is the best sleep pharmaceutical ever, for me personally anyway, giving perfectly natural sleep. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if for many people it might not be suitable. For me, two tabs – the standard label dose is three per day – works perfectly, while three tabs leaves me literally stupid during the day.
I had tried the 3 tabs to see if it would work better for the muscle problems. While it did, for example I was Christmas shopping and there were certain people, totalling 4, for whom I wanted to get a given thing. I was not able, when thinking of these persons, to correctly figure them as being 4 in number, but thought that they came out to 3. I actually did spend a bit of time rethinking it and each time coming out to 3.
I think it’s fair to say that there was a cognitive problem going on at the label dose.
I suppose it’s possible that some people might have the cognitive problems occur before getting the sleep benefit, in which case the drug would be of no use to them. As it is long acting, it IS going to be in the system during the day. At the two tablet dose however, it doesn’t make me groggy at all during the day.
Soma clears faster, but I never did like it as a sleep aid.
