Callus Care

Over the months I have developed some nice calluses from dead lifting, etcetera. But, but, but! Every once in a while I’ll end up blistering them up and I presume I lose a bit of my hard earned skin.

Could someone spare some tips to keeping them nice supple and thick? I don’t want to wear gloves.

quit bitchin’

Just keep them filed down. In my experience they tend to rip off (painfully) if they get too thick.

File them and don’t pick at them. After a year of training my hands became so worn that now whenever a callus does come off, there’s just hardened skin underneath. I imagine eventually your hands will completely adapt the way mine have.

I like to chew mine.

I want to say “ewwwy gross”…but the other day in class my professor just stopped and asked if I was alright. I replied “yeah prof I’m fine, whats up?”

Apparently I was chewing away at my hand like there was no tomorrow, haha half the class was staring at me.

Keep them trimmed down a bit. If you let them get too big, they will bunch up on things like heavy deadlifts and shrugs and will very easily tear. It makes grip an issue for a couple of weeks after that happens.

I ain’t bitchin’. I like my calluses. I find it absolutely hilarious when I shake hands with soft skinned strangers and they scream, “why are your hands so sharp/rough!?” Only down side is my woman doesn’t like it so much.

Filing them down… I’ll try it out. Thanks to everyone who responded.

www.beastskills.com has a how-to on calluses.

Get a Blunt knife + Pumice Stone.

Don’t use a wood-working file or what not!

A pumice stone will give you smooth hands just like you used to have before you got huuuuuuuuge.

I also chew mine off if I don’t have a pumice stone handy.

Underneath is just more hardened skin.

But then I also bite my fingernails too…

Oh, really? I shouldn’t use a belt sander on my hand, I suppose? No? Ok.

But seriously, WTF do I buy a pumice stone?

Hot water and a dull knife will do as well. after a long shower, the skin of calluses just scrapes off. spry beat me w/ the beastskills link.

Pumice Stones can be found at a Chemist or Drug Store as you yanks say.

They make a BIG difference compared with just hot water and knives.

You never stuck your hand on the belt grinder/buffing machine in metal/wood work class of high school? Pansy…

All the kewl kids did it.

pfft. i stuck my hand in the circular saw cuz metal blades ain’t got shit on me! broke all the blades off the saw, i was bowed down to after that.

Pfft. I’m so tough, after high school I went and earned a university degree.

I love peer pressure. The trick is to be the pressure not the peer.

Rock on!

The idea is to not have calluses. If you have them, they will rip off eventually.

HAHA
If you’re man enough to DL then you shouldn’t be too much of a puss to feel a little pain from a blister.
Chew your calluses off if they get too big, thats what I do

The pumice stone is the way to go. Use it in the shower, just file them down with the stone when your skin is moist. Don’t worry, you won’t get bitch hands. You’ll still have the calluse and it’ll be stronger than that lump of skin waiting to be ripped off.

I’ve had my calluses ever since freshman year of H.S. from lifting for football and what not. I even have them on my big toes and back of my heals from wearing cleats so much in H.S. I see them as a sign of manliness, so quit ur bitching and just peel them away until ur hands turn to leather. Which they will over time. hahaha

I name mine
