Yeah lightweight!
Arnold had something like a 700+ deadlift. Strong dude.

Err… I don’t think you fully understand what the old timers mean when they say SLDL for the lower back lol.
Any old farts here wanna explain?

Oooooh yeah, forgot all about the Old School SLDL. Found a picture of Stuart McRobert (of “Brawn” fame) performing the movement.
Very rounded back, many times performed on an elevated platform to get an even crazier ROM. Training all sorts of “wrong”, haha.

Haha that’s it! Rounded and stretched at the bottom position, with a hyperextension done mid rep(similar to how Ahnuld does cable rows in the video). Usually done 3rd or 4th in the workout for HIGH REPS.
Yup, apparently McRobert was pulling 400 for 20 reps in that photo. I’ve done 20 reps of 405 conventional and that about killed me, I can’t even fathom trying to do it in that style.
Also forgot: legs practically touching. Even more ROM of course.

I’ve seen guys do them off a bloody bench, with much lighter weights though. 405 for 20 reps is just insane.
EDIT: Beginners, please don’t ever fucking try this without an experienced guy present. RIGHT BESIDE YOU IN THE GYM, NOT SOME GUY GIVING YOU ADVICE ONLINE.
shame when he pulled that set of 405 for 20 he passed out of the hypertrophy zone and into the endurance zone, essentially making it cardio.
What a waste.

Lol! That’s what I’ve saying. If I do them, I’m going for high reps, stopping short of lockout, trying to isolate the muscle as much as possible and controlling the negative so I DON’T HAVE TO LIFT HEAVY. That is, after my t-bar rows, which I pile on the plates and do each rep explosively. Next, some author watching me while doing his hip thrusts is going to write a rambling article going, “all bodybuilders use constant tension, high reps, light weights, slow negatives…TUT… sarcopalsmic hypertrophy… hypertrophy zone…science…”

Hahaha. I laughed out loud.

Here, have this
Anyone that actually likes deadlifts is just plain not lifting very heavy.
I hate doing deadlifts
I like having deadlifted.
I hate kids.

I like deadlifts. More than squats, at least. Actually more than most lifts. I like just tearing the bar off the floor and not having to worry about a catch or an eccentric.
I can’t pull anywhere near as heavy as you but can do 3x bodyweight.

How many do you have?

None, thank God.

If deadlifts did not get you bigger and stronger, would you still perform them for the sake of joy?

Haha. When you put it that way, no, probably not.
