Boilerman Wants It All

Totally the same dude. I’ve been posting my breakfasts recently, and they’re all steak and whole eggs, but on the days I have my cheat meals and I know I’ll be getting in some not-great saturated fats, I switch over to egg whites and chicken breasts instead. Meal still “feels” the same, but make up is different and I can shift the nutrients to later. Those habits are worth keeping.

Yeah these are the type of things I think I have to start doing. I am pretty sure the grocery store I go to sells precooked chicken and turkey sausage links in a ton of different flavors so I may just have a couple of them to take the place of my current breakfast. Going to check out the nutrition facts on them though as I’m pretty sure they like sneaking a shitload of sugar into them.

I will admit that I have some serious jealousy of your breakfasts. They look awesome.

Dinner tonight was…

1 and 1/3 strip steak
3 pieces of bacon, half an advocado and large salad with blue cheese

I put the bacon on the salad to make the salad look better. I ate the bacon by itself after the picture was taken

Decided to do a conditioning workout today since they’re going to start featuring regularly in here (and to use my new toy). Wanted to hit some stuff that won’t necessarily interfere with the first few deepwater days this Friday and Monday.

EMOM 5 empty log viper pres x 10 rounds

Immediate sweat and heavy breathing. Gotta work on this conditioning thing for sure.

Did a progress photo in the Deepwater thread, ended up using myfitnesspal for the side-by-side pics and found an old picture…

The photo says it was taken in April 2018, so almost 3 years on the dot. It said 185 lbs in the description

Roughly 23 lbs heavier and a HELL of a lot stronger.(edit: lol math)

Feeling good and ready to destroy deepwater advanced

Just read your review – amazing work! On the strength and size gains but also the steak photos. I find it hilarious how such a grueling program can be so infectious here, but “regular” people would read all this and be like “WTF??”

Do you know what you’re going to do after Deep Water advanced?

Thanks @Bagsy, yeah I am very happy with how I ended up doing. After the first couple days I was second guessing myself, but was able to eat my way through the pain.

Haha yeah I don’t mention anything to anyone about lifting for that reason. If the topic does come up it’s usually someone talking about treadmills or bikes or something, which I am not at all interested in.

I personally think it’s infectious because you’re able to put yourself in someone else’s shoes… I remember creeping on @flappinit log when he was running it and being blown the fuck away. Reading about how terribly it sucks made me want to run it to see if I could finish it.

Yup, I ended up buying a Brian alsruhe 12 week program that I plan on running to completion. The main focus will be continuing to lean up while eating like a wild man (and of course, getting stronger)… and that’s about as far as I’ve gotten. I think my next big lifting goals after being happy(ish) with how I look is going to be a 4 plate squat and getting a plate on the log

Squat, 3x10 at 135lb

Deadlift
135x10
205x5
245x5
295x5
345x5
385x5 (4 Rep PR)
245x25
135x50

Planks and sit ups

Didn’t do as well as I would have liked today. I just couldn’t bring myself to push through the pain. I was getting immediate stabbing sensations in my glutes and quads towards the end of the Deepwater sets. I was able to push through a little bit from rep 45ish beyond on 135. Around rep 23 of 245 was like an instantaneous fiery spasm. I’m going to do better next time.

What exactly would you have hoped for?

I think I was expecting to be able to grind more reps out on the DW stuff. It was much less of a grind and more of a (perceived) complete shutdown of my legs…

I am thinking thats what Jon describes in the book. Pushing past that point where the pain starts and diving in

The workouts are always so unsatisfying in that block just because your mind has gotten so strong from those 12 weeks. You KNOW you got more reps each and every time. You did awesome though dude.

Yeah thats definitely how I feel thinking back on it. Just like anything it seems like it’d be a learned skill and I have to find a way to tap into it. The way this program flows, I’m sure I’ll feel better about my.performance next time. I’m kind of bummed I won’t be able to run all 6 weeks through to completion to see where I’d really end up.

Strict press 5x10 at 110lb, 4 min rest
BB curl 5x10 at 80lb, 3 min rest
NG chins 13, 8, 8
Situps and planks

Press felt good today, might be a rep PR (definitely for 5 sets), it’s feeling better now than it ever has and I’m confident that it’ll continue progressing once I get onto another program. I was half tempted to use the log but I think I’ll finish off this program using strictly BB stuff for an accurate gauge of progress and move onto the log in the next program.

Had a little 10 year anniversary celebration dinner tonight. We did another themed dinner/location dinner and tonight was Spain. We visited 4 or 5 years ago.

Paella, croquettes, and a meat and cheese board.

Congratulations! But hold on, you guys have been together for 10 years and just now getting around to marriage??
She needed to see commitment, obviously, and deep water sealed the deal LOL!

Finally a workout that you get to just “feel good” after instead of curl up and try not to die!

Thanks man! Yeah together for 10, engaged for 3. I am a pretty “roll with the punches” kind of person and didn’t propose until she flat out asked “so when are you going to propose to me?” Of course I didn’t do it right at that moment, but shortly after.

Hahaha if only that were true! She is super encouraging and supportive of my lifting but with these last 12 weeks she’s gotten a little tired of it…

Why are you always walking like that?

Why do you do that to yourself if it makes you walk like that?

(While on walks with the dog) you have long legs how can you not keep up with me?

Why are you eating that entire package of steak we just bought?

You’re seriously refusing pizza again?

You’re eating that WHOLE chicken??!

Stuff like that. She jokes about it and actually takes pictures of my dinners to share with her family. Her dad talks to me in an arnold schwarzenegger voice every time I see him haha

Haha ya man the non deepwater days are a nice little break from the action. Still pretty intense due to the freedom to choose the weight on the bar, but not nearly as brutal as the Deepwater stuff.

You got a good one there for sure dude! I use the reply “Because I am REALLY stupid” a lot to these questions, haha.

My answer every time is “I don’t even know anymore, it doesn’t matter anyway. This is my life now”

In a sarcastic way, of course.

Flat bench, 2x10, 1x9 at 180lb, 4 mins rest
CGBP, 1x10, 9, 8 at 155lb, 2 min rest
Incline press, 1x10, 8, 6 at 135lb, 2 min rest
Dips 13, 10, 8
Planks and sit ups

I’m not completely pissed at how I did today. I definitely did better last week, but then again, I hadn’t just done a press workout the day before. Again, the energy stores are just gone after the reps slow down.

Recorded the entire workout, but IMO bench is boring and I don’t feel like editing it together.

Nice work as always. Do you find that wearing a belt while benching makes a big difference for you?
