You going to try and press once you get it on or just put in on?
Man, I’m in a good situation right now, mainly no kids at this point. That’s going to change pretty soon I think though. Trying to get all of my buying out of the way now before my money and time are completely strapped.
Nah man I think my top end strength is pretty far away from there. I think I’d be very lucky to get a 150lb press with a barbell, let alone a brand new implement/movement. Judging by the way the empty log moved, it’s going to take some getting used to. Felt good though and definitely hit some different muscles than BB presses.
I was attempting to joke, but given the internet and my somewhat mediocre sense of humor, it didn’t work. Feel you on the new implement though, always a bit of an adjustment period.
There any strongman gyms near where you are? Feel like it would be fun to train in one for a bit to see if it was my cup of tea, missing competition atm
Ha all good man, I never know when someone is being serious in here or not. I mean, I wish I could slap those bad boys on there and rep it out but, of course, gotta go through the work to get there unfortunately.
And yeah, this is unlike anything I’ve ever done. I thought (what I call) power cleans were hard to get used to… Now this thing.
I’m sure there has to be something within the general vicinity of the city I’m in. There are a few barbell clubs, crossfit gyms and stuff but I’ve never heard of a dedicated strongman place. I’ve never actively searched for one though. You going to try to get into one when you move?
Edit: just looked online. Seems like there is one very small place in my city that has both powerlifting and strongman equipment. I’d be interested to take a look around there sometime
Deepwater Intermediate
W6D3
Power clean, 8 sets to 100 reps at 145lb
15, 15, 15, 15, 10, 10, 10, 10
Clean pull at 145lb, 3x10
Planks and sit ups
I was really not feeling up to this today. Got in and did the work that needed to be done, though. I’m sore all over, and I have friction burns on my arms and legs from deadlifts the other day, so cleaning was actually painful.
So happy to almost be done with this. Intermediate has felt like an eternity.
You weren’t really feeling up to it @boilerman yet you fucking smashed it.
That’s the mindset my man. That is the mindset that creates new tissue
Absolutely brutal. And for “not feeling it” you sure brought the intensity.
@ChongLordUno and @jdm135, there is no way I’d get to the final week of the program and not try my hardest to finish strong. Thanks for the support guys, it means a lot.
Is a log press and viper press the same thing/same implement?
I googled it. They are different but I still don’t understand how lol. It says a viper press is one continuous motion and a log clean and press isn’t. But both sound the same. Maybe a video will clear it up. Gonna search for those next.
Hey man, I’m not experienced with log but from what I understand, viper press goes from floor to overhead in one motion. A log clean and press is done a lot differently than BB clean and press.
With log a lot of people use three motions to get it to rack position, sort of DL it from the floor, bend down and prepare the log on your knees, then clean the log up your body.

Like this
This is a viper press
This is a log clean and press (same guy, same log)
The difference is the pause on the chest and leg drive
I do want a log now lol
They’re fun toys. Kegs can serve a similar function, AND are great for conditioning.
If there is a place near enough by I’ll probably do it a few times, at least. I’m not holding my breath it’ll actually be in Ithaca but it might be a fun weekend activity
Wish I knew man, I’m so far removed from any sort of gym setting and the only person I know to ask has gone to the same place for 10+ years around here.
There is that one place near me, it’d be a couple.hour drive for you to get there, but a good weekend trip. The drive is nice too. Not sure what kind of gear they have either, but it’s in the boujee side of town so I’m assuming they’d have top of the line stuff.
Dinner
Cilantro lime flank steak, salted to hell and back before cooking
2 links of very inauthentic chorizo (but still very good), half an advocado and a couple scoops of sour cream and green cholula
Deepwater Intermediate
W6D4
Flat bench, 2x10, 1x9 at 180lb, 4 mins rest
CGBP, 2x10, 1x8 at 155lb, 2 min rest
Incline press, x10, x9, x7 at 135lb, 2 min rest
Dips 16, 10, 8
Planks and sit ups
180x10 might be a PR. The last thing I could find in here of me benching 180 was for 8 reps. Still loving the way this particular day is set up, so I’m glad the advanced program is set up almost identical to this.
That concludes deepwater Intermediate. Overall extremely happy with my progress these past 12 weeks. Might do a recap of both beginner and intermediate in here within the next day or two.
Started a bit of calorie restriction today, replacing 2 eggs and some bacon with just chugging more milk and protein in the morning. Went without peanut butter at work today as well, but I’m planning on eating a normal dinner tonight. I’ll probably weigh myself tonight before bed just for a benchmark of progress
Absolutely dude! This log has been one of my favorite to read: a write up would be well received.
Might consider substitutions as well. It’s what I did when I dropped a bunch of weight. Egg whites instead of whole eggs, turkey bacon/sausage instead of pork, leaner cuts of meats, etc etc. You can still get the same routine and fullness with fractions of the calories. THEN you can start cutting portions down once that stops working.
Thanks man, I most certainly will do that
That is an awesome idea. I am definitely a creature of habit/routine so the closer I can stay to that, the better off I’ll be for sure
