Lol did you use chalk?
Yeah I did, I don’t see any possible way to do I without chalk haha. The amount of sweat and non-grippy handle would be a disaster waiting to happen.
You’re taller than I am so I’m assuming you have bigger hands, I guess it’s possible you’d be able to hook grip it? I attempted it and was very close to being able to do it
Dinner last night. 1lb of steak, large salad and spaghetti squash, home made pesto and dairy free cheese.
Hunger is through the roof this morning. I just ate my breakfast and polished off my jar of peanut butter before work. I need to buy more peanut butter today to keep on the van.
Initial thoughts-
- I’m excited for this change in style of programming. It feels good to have something new to work on
- I’m having a real tough time lifting my arms above my head. The swings absolutely blasted my shoulders, and I can tell some growth is going to happen. Same goes for abs, upper back/traps and hamstrings.
- I’ll be doing the 5x a week version, so I think I’ll try for Mon, Tues, rest, Thurs, Fri, Sat, rest. Saturday will be swings only. The only reason I want to set it up this way is so that the schedule won’t rotate week to week. That Saturday session will probably be very tough, but I’ll find a way to make it work.
- I don’t really have any goal time or expectations for these next four weeks, but as long as I push hard and beat the clock I’ll be happy
I think taking a short break from the type of programs I’ve been running is going to be good for me.

I tried so hard to beat the 40 minute mark. My left hand gave up and I completed the last swing with my right hand and left pinky and ring finger. My goal should be to cut rest times earlier so I’m not making up for lost time in the later rounds.
I wasn’t sore at all this morning, and then around noon my traps shoulders and glutes just lit up out of nowhere. Grip was a huge factor today, too.
With the sharing of music, I figure this might be an appropriate anthem for the next month
Huge fan of this log. Its like my Id.
That’s a badass song, dude. Thanks for sharing! I’ll definitely jam it out on Thursday while I’m hitting the swings.
My neighbors are going to love me lifting exclusively in the garage for the next month. My little Bluetooth speaker is LOUD and I crank it.
I appreciate it dude. I looked up Id and from what I understand it’s a theory created by Freud? I think I understand it, haha.
Glad you dug it dude.
Yeah, Freud put out the theory of the Id, Ego and Superego. Ego is like how we perceive ourselves, the Superego is like our moral compass/conscience, and Id is like our base animal desires. This log is EXACTLY how I would have wanted to eat and train. That you discovered it earlier in your timeline than I did gives me just a hint of transcendental envy but so much excitement as well.
I recall learning about that in one of my english high school classes. We were also reading Lord of the Flies around that time.
@T3hPwnisher maannn, that’s awesome. I’m really glad that you get some enjoyment out of my log. That makes me happy. Thank you.
The funny part is that the majority of what I try to do is a scaled version of what you are doing. Your method/mindset works and it’s literally laid out and waiting to be read in your log and in your blog. When you were on @ChongLordUno s podcast (thank you Chong for inviting him on, I loved it) you pretty much gave the blueprint that I and a lot of other folks on here needed.
I remember loving that book… I should read more often.
Deepwater eating has been spot on the past couple weeks. I’m finally feeling great. I’ve been much better about having food on hand and taking time at 10am and after work to get some additional food in. I’ve looked back over a few logs from people who’ve run this program and it looked like most were using it to lose weight… I’m not sure if I’m doing myself a disservice by eating like a madman?
I feel SUPER hungry though, so I think I’m going to continue eating a substantial amount. In the article he claims everyone loses fat and puts on muscle… I’m only a couple days in but I can absolutely see this happening to me.
Heading into a three-day-straight kb swingfest. My hope is that I’ll be reaching at least 35 mins by Saturday.
That sounds really awesome dude!, you’re getting me interested in trying that. That’s my goal right now, to put on muscle and lose fat. I suppose that gives me something to consider in the future. Glad I can watch you tackle the challenge boilerman.
That really means a lot to me dude: you have no idea. Seeing dudes like you get after it just warms my heart, and knowing I had any role in it makes everything worth it. I couldn’t ask for a better ambassador of effort.
I recently wrote about this, but I think there’s a lot of merit to using “fat loss workouts” as a means to gain muscle. Both are about creating a stimulus on the body to adapt and change, and from there it’s a question of what nutritional direction we give the body. You underfeed it and it adapts by losing fat. You overfeed it and it adapts by building muscle. I think you’ve got a good thing going here.
Yeah man, definitely. The best part is that it’s only a month if you do it 5 days a week so it doesn’t really take up too much of your time. I can also see myself keeping swings in a conditioning routine from here on out. I like the idea of the challenge, though, because you give yourself a moving benchmark from day one and all you have to do is beat it over and over again.
Ah yes I now recall reading it on your blog.
This is all starting to make sense to me. I understand the concepts you’ve been laying out individually, but I guess I haven’t been able to piece together each part of what is going on and how to tie it all together in my brain. It’s starting to come together though.

Hey dude, FYI: 20% off roasts on Piedmontese
EDIT: Actually, nevermind. The code “POWERPROJECT” would get you 25% off normally. This is actually a worse deal, haha.
Thanks dude, I saw that! I’m opting out for this one, but should need to re-up soon. I’ve been trying to diversify a little bit beyond just the red meat.

It’s so crazy how after every session I think I’ve pushed legitimately as hard as I possibly could, then I smash my time. Loving it.
My pinky and ring finger skin has started to open up a bit which is making everything so much better, too. The handle on the kettlebell is pretty narrow, and I don’t want to risk not having and fingers on it, so I’ll just have to get the skin there extra tough.

A few hours of hanging drywall and roughly 8 hours of mudding between yesterday and today, side job yesterday morning and 1.5 mile walk with the dog both yesterday and today. Did some curls, pullups and lateral raises this afternoon while I was waiting for the mud to dry. Overall it’s been a very active weekend.
I’ll be a few counties over for work on Tuesday/Wednesday so I will probably be hitting the swings later in the evening. Thankfully it’s a pretty quick ordeal.
Im excited to see you do the 10k swings. Its been 2 years for me, i should do it again someday. I remember filling the sink with icewater and soaking my forearms after some sessions!
