Bitten by the Lifting Bug

Good job Jean!!!

All in all pretty good form----now we can go heavier…

Kbell class is 52 minutes long with warmups and cooldowns.

Bogotir!!

Be Relentless,

Rick[/quote]

Thanks, Coach! Not sure I’m worthy of “Bogotir” status yet, but you know I’m working at it!

Biggest victory from yesterday’s session: split snatches that did not hurt my knees!

(FYI, for the uninitiated, “Bogotir” (or Bogotyr) is essentially a heroic, honorable warrior in Russian lore. It’s come to mean “stongest man” in kbell circles. So, in our sessions, Rick is the leader/Bogotir, and we are “Gireviks” or KB lifters.)

Excellent work KBgal!

Awesome thanks for the props Fisch.

Hey thanks, Matty! Appreciate it!

Saw your recent vids. I’m too much of a newbie to say anything but “Wow!” at this point. Nice!

Did I see that you sometimes pick up KBs, too?

Jean
ps - I’m a Packers fan but was glad to see your Giants win tonight (yeah…I’m from Chi-town but learned the game watching the Pack years ago when my hubby and I first started dating. He’s from GB. 'Nuff said.)

Thanks KB! Please comment away I always appreciate comments and critique…I actually just bought an adjustable KB up to 45lbs this past week. I decided to drop a day of lifting and focusing on some conditioning and KB work. Definitley nowhere near your standards.

I have used them sporadically in the past, mainly doing swings, figure 8s and cleans to get the form right. But they will be a consistent conditioning tool for me now.

Whoa, that KB stuff is NO joke!

Welcome aboard

Matty - RE: your KB work not being near my standards, thanks for the kind words - and I’m sure you do great work, too. I really have to credit my trainer for a) knowing his stuff and b) knowing how/when to challenge me. He has a gift for teaching - and I’m coachable (well, most of the time…ok, I admit it Rick), so that’s a recipe for success.

How do you like the adjustable KB? I’ve seen them with plates and thought I read about one that has the weights completely enclosed in the bell. I’m assuming it locks down well, but I haven’t see either kind up close.

Yay on the KBs for conditioning! Swings alone will get that heart rate up with lots of reps. In my case, I get strength training/conditioning with KBs twice a week then more conditioning in his boot camp class, which kicks my arse! Shortly, will add a day of lifting to round it out (insert happy dance here).

For me, the price is right and room right now is at a minimum. I priced the 50lb KBs which were 80 bucks EACH…pardon me but fuck that. The adjustable ones go up to 50lbs, you have to buy the extra plates at 5 bucks each but and they lock in. They have empty plates that you add in the KB to secure a tight fit if you wanted to do a lighter weight.

ok I am onboard the fan wagon of the swing jumps.

Matty all you need is a 50 and a 70.

What type of lifting program does Fisch have you on?

DJ - Haven’t started yet, just messed around one day - though knowing him, he’s already got something worked out for me. I approached him about it a few weeks ago saying that I wanted to get in there and give it a try, but I’ve had a hard time getting my other activities in order to really get in there. I’m targeting getting started end of this week or next.

I hear ya. Some places are asking $2/lb, which is insane! We found a place that has them lower, but still…

30KB x 7 goblet squats (for DJ’s challenge). Done.

Hey, kmc! Thanks…swing jumps are evil, 'cause we usually do them near the very end of a session when we’re already exhausted! There’s a guy who used to be in class who could cross the half court in 4, maybe 5, jumps tops - and his landing? Like a cat.
