Betty Strong

Glad your workout went well. I’m with you on the cardio - I did 20 mins on the Precor today and it was dullsville.

Ok…
Dr said my labs are looking “normal.” I kindly reminded her that I was told, by her, that we can treat by symptoms.
She only bumped me up a tiny bit because while my TSH could be improved upon, my FT4 is pretty good. (1.20)

The problem she sees is that my antibodies are still elevated. I guess there supposed to come down as well?
Hall are you out there lurking??

So I will do 2 weeks of the new dose and then retest. If everything is not matching up she will refer me to an endocrinologist.

I’ll tell ya…these 20 minutes of cardio after weights is boooring. but the first time I think I’ve stuck to it this long in maybe forever

oh man thats the worst! Especially after you are all pumped for some weights and after some hard lifting the last thing you wanna do is some SS cardio… good on you for getting it done though.

Glad to hear that your in the “normal” range now. Exciting news

What is “normal,” Greg?

^^you tell me!

Normal is just a label. And please say you at least had some decent music to listen to for cardio?

Glad she bumped you up a bit and that you reminded her of what she said about adjusting your dose based on symptoms.

She never tested fT3? Your fT4 could be normal or even high and you can still feel like caca. T3 is the ‘active’ form of hormone. You need to convert T4 to T3 in your liver. Sometimes this isn’t always happening as well as it should for a multitude of reasons. This is also why I prefer mixed hormone meds (like Armour or thyrolar) to T4 only preps like synthroid. Just my 2 cents. I also don’t think that GPs have enough experience to treat thyroid disorders. I think the referral to the endo may be a good idea.

Again, this is just my opinion. Obviously, this is complicated stuff and as I mentioned to you before there is the whole adrenal component but the main objective is to get you feeling good. If you like your doc and you are feeling better, then mission accomplished. If you still aren’t getting anywhere then you either need to become your own advocate or find a new doc.

EDIT: I am posting this as someone who has thyroid disease and not as medical advice.

MT- I save my music special for the boring cardio. Lately I’ve been going without tunes while training, and ‘tuning,’ in to the muscle I’m working.

Doc- I do like my Dr, I do! But theres only so much she can do which is why if things aren’t matching up in two weeks or so she will send me the endo. My small dinky clinic and this small dinky town does not carry such fancy things as armour. I already have in mind who I would want to see. Mary Shomons(the writer.advocate) Dr is in our insurance network
My FT3 has been tested, but the result has been in transit and I haven’t been able to see it yet.

Training-

Shoulder warmers

~BB row- 4x10x65(go up)
plate presses- til burning<-- not sure what they are really called. But you hold a 5lb plate and push straight out in front of your chest like a triangle. oh, that doesn’t make sense…oh well.
just going back and forth here…putting this ‘active rest,’ to use.

~Cable chest stuff
-most muscular position- 4x10
regular- max reps
chest press- max reps
1 arm press down

~T bar row- 4x10x45(time to go up!)

  • more plate presses
  • lat raises

~Rope tricep pressdown
4x10x30(time to go up!)
~Seated Chest press
4x10x25es(go up)

Straight bar pressdown
into underhand grip pressdown
2x10,10x30
-more plate presses!!

No shoulder issues today and I’m feeling ‘pumped,’ in my pecticles

Bike intervals-
Level 10 1 minute,----not sprinting, but just pushing through, feeling the muscles doing there work.
recover 1 minute
-up to 6 intervals now- That 1 minute of recovery goes by too fast!

I did not take my multi vit nor did I drink a rockstar. I took 1/2 bottle of Redline though right before training and felt fine. But the heart palpys are back. I didn’t see any sort of VIT B listed in the ingredients.
hmmmmm

I used to really hate slow steady cardio…but about a year ago, I started liking it outta nowhere. It slowly went from an obligation to my personal time where I listen to good music and think my own thoughts without worrying about my phone ringing.

That aside, there are some days when even my favorite music bores the shit out of me and I have nothing exciting to think about.

It’ll probably take time for the B to work its way out of your system.

Dasher - that’s how running is for me. I daydream or plan stuff and because I run on commons, there’s always birds, squirrels and other stuff to look at. And autumn colours in a couple of months. God I miss running.

Yay! Mary Shomons has a really great site. Sorry to clog up your thread and I hope that I am not coming off as preachy or pompous. Not my intent!

I am glad that she did the proper tests. What is interesting with me is that my TSH is in a great range but my free hormones are a smidge too low. The thyroidz is such a wonky thing!

I feel the same way about walking. Walking is good too!

Ya, hopefully just another day for the Bs to clear. I was contemplating not even drinking ANYthing pre-training, as I feel I abuse the stuff anyway. Maybe a little weaning off to rest my adrenals and all that jazz?

And then eventually add it back in, but NOT everyday. Thoughts?? I don’t I’ve ever trained without anything. At least I would know it was my own self doing the work and not the works of “fake energy.”

Just rambling here.

Had PT this afternoon. Kicked my ass and my knees are barking now. grrrrr
And my ankle rolls in so terribly bad that my leg looks jacked. Its my ankles’ fault. How do they think they will fix my knees if I have a lifetime worth of rolled in ankles?

Glad to hear you didn’t have any shoulder issues, so tell your ankles to fall in line as well, that’s an order.
When I used to run longer distances, it was always ska music that made my feet perky, or anything with a bpm of 170 if I was feeling very energetic.

Mim: Cutting back on the Rockstar sounds like a good plan. I’m a bit of a junkie myself. My husband has even gone so far as to stick those yellow rockstar stickers on my car. And I loathe bumper stickers! I think the effect is more psychological than physical…“everything you need is already inside of you!”

SOmetimes you just have to bullshit yourself.

Hey!
Your comment about ankles got me thinking. It makes sense that alignment issues at the bottom (ankles) will cause problems higher up the chain (knees).

I don’t know if the ankle fix is an exercise, mobility, orthotic or other option but it seems that it is worth looking at seriously.

The issue now is that it appears to be a structural problem.

I think it’s when I broke my ankle when I was 8…

It probably didn’t set right as it was healing. Actually I hobbled around for two weeks in just an ace bandage, because it was so swollen they couldn’t tell by x-ray that it was broken. So my ankle and the whole side of the foot rolls in, and I haven’t really payed attention until now!

So far the only thing I’ve been told is to make sure to always wear proper shoes with orthotics$$$$.
And I was given an exercise to do with band that might help set the hips and quads at a better angle.

Would explain why extra wide squats were the most comfortable, because that was the most comfortable way for my knees to track. And I could spread my feet more. Also the ball of foot pain is explained by my crappy ankle as well(thinking of you CAL!!) And all that time I spent wearing boots in the military. No arch support and my little toes all boxed in.

I wonder if I should practice squats with a closer stance to force the feet knees to work together and to not neglect other muscles. The weak inner vmo for example.

So far the leg press with close stance and feet slightly out feels decent. I like the machine my gym has…a squat press.

Nadia- junkie is a good term.
It’s like a drug. I feel like I need it to get to the gym. I’m not even sure if I ‘feel,’ the effects of the stuff anymore either.

And I have a head cold, so a couple days off from the gym= no energy drinks. Perfect time to cut them. The habit is just as bad as buying smokes.
Speaking of which, it’s been about 6 months since I’ve kicked smoking!

I like the idea of using my own ‘stuffs,’ to get through. Earning that sweat, not the sweat from being pumped full of who knows what, lol.

Not saying I won’t ever use caffeine and such things again, but just until my whores stop moaning and I am healthy again. Maybe give the adrenals a little rest. I think of pistons pumping in a Nascar. Your firing them up on a constant basis only to burn em down, every single day.

And wouldn’t it be funky if I got this thyroid thing because of my pill/energy drink/diet abuse?? hmmm
Just a theory I came up with talking to the hubby last night.

Hi Mims! Just catching up with all your going ons. Keep on keepin’ on over here. You are working through so many health things. Sounds like it takes some time to fine tune. Sorry to hear about all the joint stuff.

BUT SUPER YAY for 6 months out on your smoking habit. That is AWESOME! After kicking that one, the caffeine should be a cinch.

Congrats on the six months - it hardly seems that long.
Yeah I get the ankle thing. My right ankle is jacked as well. Explained more in my log. I noticed when I was watching my Greenwood Forest Park vid that my foot twists out when I walk. It’s annoying but don’t think it can be fixed - like you it’s a bone structural thing.
Thought about getting Vibrams to help your toes spread?
