Yeah, TSH alone ain’t gonna tell you shit, and if you have a Dr who isn’t willing to test all your various thyroid hormones, then get someone else. Your T4 might be whatever, but you have no idea if your body is converting the T4 into T3 etc. That’s what made my Dr dose me - my TSH was slightly high, my T4 was normal, but my T3 was lower than it should’ve been.
Hallowed, are you able to get Armour? I was on it a long time ago, then there was some eff up at the factory or something and I can’t get it anymore it seems.
II actually can’t take armour due to reverse to syndrome I currently take to only 150mcg per day.
I was able to get armour before had to really push for it.
You’re right she needs more testing but a ash that high does clearly say hypo and if her doc doesn’t know that… or at least want to get more testing… current standard ash lab range tops out at three and she is way over.
God I fucking hate the state of thyroid treatment in this country! Pa fucking thetic.

One time I got my anitbodies tested and one came back high(even on meds) which is when I started researching food intolerance’s, etc
Looking back on the allergy test done, I am borderline allergic to all food groups. When I read it two years ago, I read ‘Negative.’ Hubby takes a look at it today and he says, “what does being borderline allergic to stuff mean??”
Julia is too! I’m not sure what to make of it, or if I should make anything of it. But I’m not stopping til I’m fully satisfied. If there is an underlying cause as to WHY something may be attacking my thyroid, then I’d like to know! especially if I’m eating it!
I don’t know how I’ve been functioning. Like a robot? Lots of coffee! Some days are good as long as I get really good sleep. Which I was when the hubby was gone.
So now that he’s home it’s been a huge adjustment. I’m a really really light sleeper.
I was just complaining on FB that I have to wait 2 more weeks just to follow up with my “DR.” She’s a Nurse practitioner that hasn’t a single clue about endocrinology. But told me I was crazy when I presented her with my info. I mean, she’ll get me tested for the crap, but not without mumbling under her breath about it. And then another two weeks to wait and see the endo?
I’m trying to find out how to get another Dr to speed the process along.

Your antibodies were high?
As in your TPO anti bodies?
Find that test.
If those are HIGH You have Hashimotos disease which is automune thyroid disease where your body attacks your thyroid. If you have Hashis ANY DOC will give you thyroid hormone.
treatment for Hashi’s shouldn’t be that hard to get!
Its basically treated the same as non hashi’s hypothyroid (with incoming supplmeental hormone) but those elevated antibody levels tend to spur receipt of treatment.
Sorry my post up there got fucked up I was on my phone.
The range for TSH was changed to .3 - 3 years ago 3 maximum should be standard everywhere and as I stated many just regular old MDs will treat for TSH over two. MiM please start aggressively pursuing this it is not I repeat NOT going to get better on its own.
My nurse did give me thyroid medicine way back when but without explaining what the hell was happening. It was like some common event that had occurred and I was just next in line. I started doing my own reading and would ask questions only to be shot down.
I eventually got the referral to an endo only to get the run around there as well.
Is it really as simple as just taking some synthroid and getting on with life? Or is there more to the story?
The thing that was high was the Thyroid PERO AB … 27 (0-20)
Thyroglobul AB… 57 (0-80)
T3…125 (60-181)
Keep in mind this was 2 years ago and i have not been taking meds.

it CAN be as simple as taking synthroid and getting on with life. It CAN absolutely.
For many including me, no.
Synthroid is synthetic T4. they give you that on the assumption that your body will convert it to T3. T3 is the “active” hormone that runs your metabolism, makes you feel good, keeps your hair attached to your scalp, and gives you a nice happy vibe to living. T4 is nothing but a precursor to T3. Some people just convert the incoming synthroid (synthetic T4) into T3 and once the right dose is achieved are well and happy with retesting oh every six to twelve months. Fin.
UNFORTUNATELY many many of us do not convert T4 to T3 AT ALL. That means not our natural T4 and not any incomining synthetic T4 (synthroid). Conversion can only be detemined by testing FREE T3 (not TOTAL, FREE) before dosing with synthroid and then testing again in eight weeks or so. If the FREE T3 number is climbing you are probably converting. Dosing and testing should be repeated until the FREE T3 number is in the top of the range minimum top 2/3 of the range. Ideally top 3/4 of the range. NOW, if you are NOT CONVERTING you will need incoming T3. There is synthetic T3 brand name cytomel and its generics. As an example my original endo had me on 10mcg of cytomel. Guess how much I really need and now take? ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY MICROGRAMS. Yeah. Undertreated much?
And then there’s reverse T3 (wilsons syndrome) but thats worse case so lets not go into that. What you must do is get all new lab work TSH FREET3, FREET4, and antibodies. You can order it yourself online I’m trying to remember the name of the website… Oh yeah ok its healthcheckusa.com you want the thyroid panel II (Thyroid Panel TWO) and I believe the discount code at checkout is 12345 you can get it for about a hundred bucks they’ll send you to a lab and you’ll have your results.
Then yes please get on synthroid! and get retested in eight weeks see whats going on with your FREET3 best case scenario it will be climbing. Ideally you want a doctor that understands this but there is no reason not to get started now.

uhuh…yup…TSH…mmmhm…i see…
Que Mascherano inner monologue: Jesus H. Christmas! Hallowed is looking de-fucking-licious in that red…whatever that is. MY GOD!! I would do all sorts of bad to that woman. Fak me!! And dat ass!! Scissor sisters!! I’ll PM her later and ask about something thyroid related and then BAM! Naked pics of that sweet, sweet Hallowed meat!!
Mim: Glad you’re on way to getting the thyroid figured out. Sounds like you’ll be an informed and empowered patient with all the info you’re getting here. And yeah for 5-3-1!
We can’t afford to be throwin money at lab stuffs. I’ll just ask point blank for the tests like I did last time. If she wants to play rough, I can too.
Until I find another Doc that is. It’s not so easy when your military. It’s a fuggin process and a half I tell ya. And maybe when your not military? I don’t know!
Hall- I trust that there is hope for me in regards to my body comp goals? feels like I’ve been chasing my tail for years in that regard. Was it good to stop the hardcore dieting?? Would make sense as to why it seemed to be the only thing that worked though. Hey, I have some old synthroid in my cabinet I found. 100mg. nah…I want ‘clean,’ starting readings when I get my tests done.
At what point would you ask to get other things looks into, like progesterone, adrenals, glucose etc??
