So glad you had some fun family time camping and boating. And goofy hat wearin’ is essential when you’re gonna be out on the water all day. Lookin’ good in your shortie shorts back there, but it was all that long red-hair that got me. You’ve got beautiful hair.
I’ve had a couple of friends who’s thyroid went off the rails and depression was part of it. I’ll bet that’s what it is. And it’s awesome that it can be treated.

I actually wouldn’t mind walking on the vegetarian side. It just seems complicated/exspensive?

For lunch I would have had mass amounts of chicken…
Snack of cottage cheese
Dinner: STEAK! Broccoli!

I think you’re doing the vegetarian thing wrong
I get my vitD from the sun. It makes me happy and the less supps I have to take, the better. Also, you can try rhodiola. I take one pill a day and it helps with cortisol and relieving stress and just makes you happier for the day.
I dont know if your on any meds, but if you are be careful of St. Johns Wort, as in combination with SSRIs or any other antidepressant meds may contribute to Seretonin Syndrome, as both increase the Seretonin in the brain make sure you tell your doc that you are on St Johns Wort, as they interact with the above mentioned drugs and many other drugs and may contribute to adverse effects.
I’m not taking any meds for anything at this time.
All I’ve been taking for the past several months is fish oil, l-glutamine, move free(which has extra VIT D in it) and my multi…oh and copious amounts of caffeine.
I feel like I’m being dragged through the mud. I can understand why people feel very depressed with this condition and with Dr’s just telling them they are crazy. I myself have been told the same thing. It’s infuriating!
I’m not lazy, depressed and angry. But my thyroid is!
I wanted something to keep me focused and steady when everything else in my life seems not to be that way. 5/3/1 will give me the ‘strength,’ to keep moving forward.
I pride myself on NOT following programs, but I’m tired of beating around the bush with strength gains. I promised myself that if I at least follow 5/3/1 for the compound lifts, I can do whatever the hell else I want.
I really suck at math, so hopefully I got my numbers right!
Front Squat-
65x5
70x5
80x8
MP-
55x5
65x5
75x8
lat pull down
alt db oh press
RDL
alt reverse lunges(on the smith. was weird)
lat raise
alt front raise
face pull
hammer curls
Good mornings
10 min step interval on the Precor(<3 that thing!)
Btw, I really really like that gym. people DO WORK. It’s motivating!
Now to eat lunch and go off to the pool! shit, my rock star is wearing off. I might as well just give up caffeine as well. Bummer!!
But i hate feeling like its the only thing getting me through the day…then when it wears off, I feel worse.
Heh, well good luck with 5/3/1. It works pretty well from what I’ve seen. I had to stop due to injury so I’ve only done a couple of rounds but you do make progress.
Sounds like you’re a bit happier today. Good!
I went through a pretty bad bout of clinical depression in my early 20s. Getting my arse to the gym literally saved my life. It was the one thing I could do for myself in a bad situation.
if you try the 5-htp let me know how it goes! I’ve been considering it too. I just tried Relora which has been pretty pointless. I like rescue remedy for anxiety!!they have lil chewy gummie so you can eat too:)
Have you tried the st john’s wart before?? it turned me in to Sarcastic Bitchy Evil Brute! I was cheerful and making fun of everyone! Maybe that means it was working and i stopped being a doormat for a few months…but it pissed of SO at the time so i stopped. hmm.
then i took it again last year, accidentally took to much and it was weird! its a definite stimulant!! I’ll tell you that–but not a good one!!!

No actually…I feel like crap.
Fake it til you make it!![/quote]
lol. I have to do this at work all the time (retail. ugh.) and everyone thinks I’m such a nice, laid back person…
If you’re going to do a program, I think 5/3/1 is a great choice. It really does allow you a fair amount of freedom with how you do your main lift for the day and what you do for accessory work.
Best of luck getting the thyroid thing straightened out.
oh noez! Actually, i’ve read somewhere that if you “fake” being happy, that you kinda just become “happy” - in the study they made the patients laugh for 10 mins a day even if was fake laughing and the patients reported decreased depression.
Anyways, I’m in no way recommending that you don’t “own” your current state of mind. If you’re feeling down and out, you gotta face it head on. I guess the faking of happiness is just a kind of band-aid.
No caffeine?! ACK!! Maybe you should just drop the Rock Star and go back to, you know, the regular stuff - coffee!!!
YAY for 5/3/1!
YAY for new gym and new motivation!
YAY for summer and pool time and boat rides!
ps. Brute!! Hilarious re: your St. Johns Wort. cheerful and snarky? “have a great day, fuckheads!” HAHA!
I’ve read so much mis-information on St Johns, that I will just stay away from it all together. the 5-htp sounds intriguing though!
I was just feeling reeeally crummy yesterday…not sleeping will do that to ya. And I didn’t know we were going to the big pool on base with the millions of people, so I was peeved about that. But I was trying to be a good sport, just happy to have my hubby home.
Buuuuut…a couple of the clicky trainers that I complain about from the other gym were there The head one didn’t even glance my way…but the other girl was being all nicey nice. Movin on…
I don’t see a reason to give up my morning cuppa
Probably ditching the energy drinks though…booooooo
Ok, so the womens clinic called back and they just wanted to let me know about thyroid stuffs.
TSH- 6.770(normal values are 0.45-4.5) I want to be a 1!!
T4- 1.2 (normal values 0.82-1.77)
I just think it’s weird that even after all this time my TSH has not gotten too much worse, even without meds…why?? On meds, two years ago I was at 5.304.
And that’s only an inkling into what they could test for…my next step is to follow up with my PCM. She’s a whack job. The one who told me I was hunting zebras.
My TSH has always been high(normal) even with meds…but I didn’t know that I could bug the Dr to get me to a low normal to feel even better!
Hey Betty
I don’t have any thyroid advice for you, but if you are thinking of adding in more veggies and fibrous food(beans) do it slowly otherwise it could be uncomfortable. It take the digestive system a little while to get used to the extra fiber. Beans are only a problem for people who don’t eat them that often.
Welcome to the cult of Wendler, oh and I think it was a good choice staying away from the St Johns Wort, it has many derivatives that are used in Paxil, and Paxil is a Fucked AD.
Hehe, next to VeggieS, I’m probably second in line to the veggie eating throne.
Oh and btw, I read your comment inquiring about how to grow a butt. For me, it was including lots of glute specific exercises that I hadn’t done before. Plus hill and bike sprints! It’s like waking up my sleepy bum. Like 2-3x a week of a glute-y type circuit…either after training, or in between days. Throwing in extra hammy work helps. And I do bike/hills sprints 2x/week…plus, jogging.
I think any kind of sprint or running, kinda boosts your toosh UP! Oh and doing low back work to get that curve leading down to the bum…(so scientific right?)
Thanks Matty!!!
ya, I feel special now…kept resisting and resiting. But I see everyone flying off the handle with progress, it’s ridiculous. (I’m thinking frenchy to name one)
And I just really want something that is a constant, whereas a lot of things in my life are not at the moment.

OKAY, IS THIS ALL OF YOUR TEST RESULTS? Am I missing more somewhere? WHERE IS YOUR FREET3 and FREET4 test? You need the FREE T3 and FREE T4 not just “T4”
That said, you are totally hypothyroid. My General Practitioner will treat any TSH over TWO. You need to be on supplemental thyroid hormone. HYPOTHYROID CANNOT BE TREATED WITH DIET EXERCISE OR SUPPLEMENTS. Period. Man I’m sort of amazed you function and exercise. You don’t know how shitty you feel. Believe me you feel like crap and you won’t know it until you start to feel better. Finding a doc to treat you with a TSH that high shouldn’t be difficult. Ask your MD to start you on Armour Thyroid and keep retesting and redosing until your TSH is under 1. You also want a FREE T3 test you want your FREET3 to be in the top 2/3 to 3/4 of the range and you want to keep testing and increasing dose until you get there.
You’re sick honey and only incoming thyroid hormone is going to help you.
