A little while back, I thought a great T-mag article would be to get John Berardi and Eric Serrano in a room together and have them battle it out, defending their work against each other’s criticisms. Bodybuilding and nutriton experts with differing POVs rarely get to directly confront each other directly. I thought it would be an awesome article but maybe the request would be viewed as starting trouble.
Now with Scott Mendelsohn fishing for possible questions and Berardi chiming in (that’s the sound of his brass balls bouncing into each other), I say let’s have it:
Let Scott Mendelsohn referee a debate between the two nutrition experts. The certain winner is the T-mag readers, avidly copying down every tidbit of info that doesn’t burn up in the vitriol passing between them.
…As long as it’s a spirited, non-judgmental debate like “The Gang of Five”. These two guys are professionals, so I would hope that that wouldn’t be a problem. And you BET that the “T-Mag” readers would be the winners! Sounds exciting!
Brian, it’s not a bad idea, one that Ive considered before. However I want to get a few things clear. First, I respect Dr Serrano’s work and wouldnt want my questions and comments to be misconstrued as confrontational or derogatory. Secondly, Dr Serrano is much better known than I am so I doubt if he even knows who I am or would want to have such a “discussion” with someone like me. With that said, I certainly wouldnt mind such an article. I think it would be quite cool and would be a nice chance to clear up some misconceptions out there.
John - You may not be as well known around the rest of the world, but you’ve sure made your mark in my family. When I offer up new nutritional ideas to my husband, he says “Did John Berardi write that?” He’s hooked on what you say since your nutritional info helps us see visible differences in our physiques when we implement it. In short - thank you.
