Bathroom Scale For 1 Arm Chin

Okey I was training for a one armed chin for a while. Recently I tried using a bathroom scale to see how much of my weight I could actually pull up, (I wiegh 71KG the lowest number on the scale I could hold for a while was 10 KG)

Anyway from this I recalled that I could add some isometric training for one arm chins, trying to hold as much as I can for about a minute or so and maybe adding in weight to improove my biceps\back strength even further when I can chin with one arm, is it any good? or just a waste of time?

I always try to think the following of training , that’s if some move or concept in nutrition wasn’t done by humans frequently during history chances are it will do little to improove muscle mass and strength (Good examples would be squatting , overhead squatting deadlifting using the core to stablize instead of moving with it a lot etc)
and holding stuff is definetly something that humans had to do for more then just the recent few 2k years… so it could work… what do you think?

Christian Thibaudeau recommends isometrics for strength and mass, but I think your best bet would be assisted eccentric-only one armed chins, then move on to weighted eccentric-only one arm chins, and when your strong in those you should be able to do the concentric part as well.

So are you saying that various forms of squats and deadlifts will, or won’t help you build muscle?

I can do a one arm chin. I think the best way(at least for me) to do that feat is by NOT actually practicing doing a one armed chin, but by being so strong with two arm chins that eventually you can pull it off. The best way to get stronger with chins is to

  1. Do chins. Duh
  2. weighted chins. A must for anyone looking to chin with one hand
  3. Other heavy basic compound movements will help your pulling power, like deads and such.

I will also note that I weigh 163ish at 8%, it does help to be light if this is your goal.

I tried a one arm chin the other day and thought I was gonna rip my arm out of socket. I guess thats what happens when you weigh 270 and can only do about 8 pullups.

There’s some info in this article that may help (it includes a one-arm chin section)…

8 is loads, I do 4-5. Show off.

Well Tried it for 3 days , it works I added about 5 KG to my pulling power… this is awesome. all that is left is about 8-9 KG left and I could get out of the hole my grip improoved even more.

as for weighted two arm chins I can’t do them I don’t have a belt or a belt in my gym theres only the lat pulldown and it sucks .

oh and I’m abt 157lbs at 13-15% bf with huge legs(reletivly , troll away :P) not exactly a strength to weight machine=\

for the pissed dude who sais that I’m saying that various forms of DL and squats don’t work wth is he smoking?

You don’t need a weightbelt to do weighted chins. Buy some ankleweights, they’re pretty cheap. Or even better, buy an X-Vest. Or hold onto a dumbbell with your feet. Be creative. And check out www.beastksills.com, just rememebered that there’s a one-arm chin guide there, too.

Exactly. Hell, before I had access to a weightbelt, I used to wear cargo shorts and stuff them with as many 5 pound plates as I could fit.
