i’ve been a similar situation to yours w/ regards to trying to balance out camp and weights.
the best option i found was to just NOT LIFT. seriously. it will do you better to just be injury-free at the end of it all then 5 lbs stronger on the bench.

He’s dead on. Back when I was playing in high school, I found it to be damn near impossible to balance a consistent workout schedule with basketball camps. More than likely, it will just drain you. Not to mention that you’d need a Grow! IV in you to get enough calories to make up for that kind of expenditure.
DON’T LIFT! As was stated earlier. What you are about to experience is an all out assault on your body. Basketball camp, at least the one I went to when I was younger, will hit your body extremely hard. You’re recovery ability will be pushed to the brink and beyond and lifting will be the LAST thing you would want to do. Your reason for being there is to learn to play the game not lift weights. Two weeks off will do you LOADS of good in this case. There are zero benefits from lifitng during camp only a great deal of negatives.

You’re only 13 so I wouldn’t worry too much.
What about doing some bodyweight exercises?
What wouldnt u worry too much about? Are you agreeing that i shouldnt be working out? Also, what are some BW exercises i can do that wont leave me super sore after camp? Thanks
ALso,(this is for directed to everyone) what about if i didnt do any heavy lifting (squats, deads, bench) and only did some core work like leg raises, hyperextensions, saxon bends, stuff like that. Would that be alright?

I think that’s going to depend on the intensity of the camps. To give you an example, the basketball camps I was familiar with consisted solely of games, usually 4 a day. Between all of the sprinting/jumping/physical contact, you can really exhaust your core.
If you’re spending 3 or 4 hours on the court running games, it’s probably best to stay away from any additional core work. Of course, what it really comes down to is what you’re doing at camp and how you feel; that’s your best gauge.

THanks alot for ur replies.
Again…DO NOT WORK OUT! Your nervous system will be shot from camp PERIOD! The food sucks ass at camps and you wont be getting the proper nutrition to even repair properly for a 1/2 day camp. I
f you do ANY work out you will be increasing the potential for injury exponentially. You’re going to be running upright for HOURS upon HOURS and your abs and lower back will be shot because of this. Doing ANY working out will work against you PERIOD!
Do you want to get injured the 2nd day of camp and cant finish the rest of the time? Whats more important, loss of strength because your body isnt recovering properly as a result of tremendously over working it or a lifetime of basketball knowledge?
