bar pushups?

In Westside for Skinny Bastards Joe Defranco reccomends bar pushups as a possible exersise and I cannot find implicit refrence anywhere as to what these are.

I imagine they may just be pushups where you grip a barbell w/ no plates on it but I am not sure.

Can anyone clarify how exactly these are performed?

Thanks!

Blam,

This is my understanding of barbell push-ups.

You could use a Smith machine with the bar lowered all the way down, a barbell supported on the bottom of a power rack, or a barbell suspended from chains hanging from a power rack.

Basically you can do high repetition/GPP with an exercise such as this.

I hope that is what you were looking for.

blam, you could try leaving a set of small plates on the barbell and doing them from the floor.

This way still requires plenty of stabilizer action to keep the bar from rolling either way.

Thanks for the replies and yes it is for some high repition work. I may try it w/ the bar free for the extra stabalizer work.

blam I would make sure the bar is secure and if you want to make it more difficult (assuming you can do 100 reps straight) have someone place a weight on your back.
