I am going to be following a body weight only program for a little bit, and I was wondering if people think that buying a pair of push-up bars would be worth it?
The push-up bars do help to extend your ROM, but I think their greatest benefit is their use as paralettes(mini parallel bars). They make doing L-sits a little easier and planche type movements less harsh on your wrists.
Hope this helps.
If it is worth it to you.
Use books, cynderblocks, or whatever else you have around the house and spend/save the money elsewhere.
Otherwise you may want those gymnastic type pushupbar things to incorporate other exercises.
Good luck.
Consider doing pushups, etc. on your knuckles (fists). This allows you to straighten your wrist, and also makes your hands tougher.
Give fingertip pushups a try…ouch!
dude buy 'em they’re fun. i got some el cheapo plastic ones at target for so cheap i don’t even remember -under $10 and they work fine.
i use them instead of claps: put them out wide, push up off the floor catch some air and land on the bars. then push off the bars and land on the floor. then put them in close. try it w./ feet elevated.
also great for handstand pushups.
My wife has some rubber coated hexagonal 15-pounders dumbells. I use those on a carpeted floor when doing push-ups. Works great.
I’ve got a set of push-up stands from Altus. They were something like $12 or so. Yes, they are worth it in my opinion. They’re great for body-weight workouts, active recovery workouts, to finish off a chest session, etc.

Hey, I do that too! Bastard, copping my style.
Although I got the Everlast ones, I think they were under $20.
