Ever since I started working out I have been doing assisted dips at my gym. I thought I wasn’t strong enough for bodyweight. I was pretty close to using only 15lbs of assist, when I was feeling strong one day and tried to bust out a few w/o assist. DAMN!!! They were easy! I think the dip assist machine is a POS, it seems to inhibit your natural movement and keep you weak. It feels so much better with my legs crossed behind me instead of straight under me. I may even have to get an X-vest or use a weight belt now.
It’s awesome. Just had to share my excitement, that’s all!
Agreed…good luck, don’t get over anxious, but glad to see that you’re moving beyond potential.
WTF is an assisted dip machine?
I can’t even imagine a demand for something like this, let alone the production and use of one.
Please pardon my ignorance, but are there any other Rube Ginsberg devices like this? If so I am going to have to continue to pursue my education in mechanical engineering and release my own line of bullshit grinders.
And Congradulations on progress.
Its kinda like an assisted chinup. From what I’ve seen.
It’s the same as an assisted chin-up machine, a bar that goes underneath your feet and helps you to the top.

you have never seen one of them? they are the thing that “softer” looking people go up and down on with 95% of their body weight being lifted by counter-weights
My girlfriend can do bodyweight dips, and I think she can do unassisted bodyweight chins/pull-ups soon. She haven’t amazing genetics for upper body strenght… It’s only hard work!
Just for the hell of it…at least a dip machine gets people unwittingly doing a compound movement rather than some tricep kickbacks with pink 5 pounders. And it also beats bench dips with the shoulders internally rotated I suppose. Aww, who the hell am I kidding, assisted dips suck donkey balls!!
The plattform you place your feet on doing assisted dips definitely negates a lot of the benefits of normal dips due to the exclusion of various stabilizer-muscles.
I agree that the assisted Chin/Dip machine is not to be used all the time, but…
What about CW’s new SOB program? I can bang out about 25+ bodyweight dips no problem but after that first set my triceps are pretty shot. His program calls for another set of 30 reps (2x30) on certain days, and on the (1x50) days I would be hard pressed to get quality reps without a little assistance.
Normally, I don’t use assisted dips, I do weighted dips, but in high rep scenarios I think there is a potential use for the machine. My two cents. Peace.

You can also switch grips to a wide grip and do dips with your chest doing way more of the work. I find that with this method i can do way more dips 25+ for multiple sets.
If i give it all i have with elbows close to the body i will be shot for good. BUT if i do dips stressing my chest as the primay mover then in later sets adjust form to make my Triceps do a greater workload it compensates nicely and i can keep on keeping on.

That’s a good point. Maybe you could try going until failure, taking a short break (around 10 seconds) and continuing until you hit the required reps. Reduce the number of breaks each session until you are able to perform all the reps in one effort. Just a thought.
lol. While I may emotionally support you, they do serve the purpose of getting people away from doing endless amounts of triceps kickbacks to hit “all three heads”. So yes while the assisted dips and pull up machines help pussies take on more demanding upperbody lifts- they are doing them. Now if only they could progress dem bitches.
