Are You Really Eating 6 Meals a Day?

Hey,

This is only my 3rd week of training and eating more. I’m the guy that was only eating maybe 2 fast food meals a day. Now, I’m eating 3 full meals and 3 snacks in-between.

I’ve been reading threads about people eating 6-8 meals a day. Are these ALL full meals? My snacks usually consist of 3 or 4 spoonfuls of calorie-dense peanut butter and 2 or 3 glasses of whole milk or some fruits and nuts. Should I be eating 6 full meals instead of the 3 meals and 3 snacks??

There is no such thing as a “snack” in bodybuilding. Yes, most of my meals are real meals aside from the occasional meal replacement shake. I also would never waste my appetite or ability to get more food down by wasting my time “snacking” on anything. Yes, sometimes a protein shake is considered a meal.

All my meals are very similar in size, each one between 600-800 cals. Nuts and PB will work, but you need a protein source in there as well. I personally like to carry around whole food with me, like chicken, but I’m sure protein shakes every other meal would work too.

3-4 tble spoons of PB or 3 glasses of milk has enough calories to be considered a small meal :stuck_out_tongue:

Hell yeah!
I am on the AD diet and eat food at every meal (no shakes)
Whole foods satiate me so much more than a protein shake!

I`ll have meat, eggs and spinach for breakfast.

Boiled eggs with mayo and an occasional peperami at 10.

Fish or meat with veg and added oil at 1.

More eggs and spinach with oil at 4.
Workout at 5ish.
Liver tabs straight after.

Dinner of meat and veg, fats at 6.30.

Topped off with more boiled eggs or c.cheese at 9.30 pre bed.

Every feeding I have is a meal. Or, if it’s not solid it at least contains enough calories to be considered a full meal. I would say that 2-3 8 oz glasses of whole milk is 300-450 calories, and then with a couple tablespoons of PB it could be considered a “meal” because you’re putting down 600 or so calories.

If your snack is a planned protein shake and some fruit and cottage cheese then I’d call it a small meal. Or a sandwich.

A tablespoon of peanut butter has 100 calories. A cup of milk has about the same. If you’re downing about 3 of each…that’s 600 calories. I would consider that a “meal”, not a snack. In my mind, a snack is no more than 300 calories.

Just take your total calories and split it up into 6 meals. So, if you plan to consume 3000 calories a day then that’s 6 meals containing 500 calories.

Except breakfast, all my meals are around ~500 kcal, which is in fact pretty small compared to a normal meal size, but when you eat every 2-3 hours it works very well.

the only way to down 5k cal a day is 6-8 meals a day, so therefore yes, 6 full meals a day, then shakes. You’ll get used to it don’t worry.
