I use a pen and little moleskin book to record my workouts and diet, but recently got a new phone and a smartwatch.
The times I tried apps before they felt like more work than the workout, so any recommendations or is it a waste of time?

The nutritionix app is really good for food logging
I use FitNotes to track my workouts and plan future ones.
Its a free app with pretty much everything you could want,
graphs, custom exercises, split breakdowns, pr tracking, volume, rep, set, exercise graphs and tracking , etc. etc.
I have tried to use other apps in the past but found them to be a hassle and most of the time the really useful features are always pay walled, not with FitNotes however, can only recommend it.
Juggernaut AI is a good one. It lets you put your own max numbers in, goes through some goals and questions with you and essentially programs your lifts and schedule. You can choose your accessory lifts and swap them as you see fit.
Strong Lifts Weight Training is a madcow 5x5 app that estimates your training weights based on provided maxes as well and will program for you too, with accessories. They both are dynamic enough that if you fail early at some point theyāll adjust accordingly, so you donāt just get lost chasing the gains train and falling behind.
Tons of apps have popped up with AI but Iāve personally used these and they seem engineered to provide legit advice, not just aggregate general info from a web scan.
I just use Notes on my iPhone.
