Oh and RAW? It’s not raw, he is wearing a belt lol[/quote]

Yeah, I’m curious how losing the straps would effect him. having to go to an underhand grip with one hand could throw him off.

big z trains primarily for strongman where straps are legal for the deadlift, then again he does plenty of grip work to prepare for other events like farmers walks, hercules hold, etc so i wouldn’t doubt his grip.

… I would. He’s obviously stronger than fuck, but I’m not sure his hands are keeping up with his body. You have nothing to lose from holding a deadlift the way it’s supposed to be held, and he chose to use straps.

Whatever though, he has a year to rectify any discrepancy (if there is one), and he will provide the best competition against Bolton.

In the realm of strongman, Z has a RELATIVELY weak grip, it tends to hold him back on some of the grip dominated events. That said, he still has multiple world records on farmers walks and other lifts where grip counts. Many strongman (myself included) train grip separate from their deadlift, but that’s another thread entirely.

Biggest thing is Z doesn’t typically train for 1RMs, I’m sure if he put some focus on it he’d be a beast, but then his SM season would suffer.

Only time will tell and no matter what, this will be an awesome contest and Andy is for sure the man to beat.

Alot of strongman competitors are elite deadlifters (big z, mark felix, poundstone (especially if he’s allowed to hitch) nee, etc). Strongmen probably train the deadlift as much if not more than powerlifters, especially with most switching to a westside style template.

The westside guys are known for huge totals but not necessarily for their deadlifts. I’m curious to see how some of the strongmen will do with powerlifting rules and in a deadlift only competition. All I know is, there is going to be some serious weight moved at that deadlift challenge.

almost forgot about benedikt magnusson. he is still closest to andy’s equipped.
