What about more catch weight fights?
Why? What is the purpose that a catch weight fight is going to serve? Unless you are also going to have catch weight belts, then they are just novelty fights.
prime example is Faber/Edgar Edgar could start his way down to 135 and give himself a practice cut. Like Silva/Franklin both of their fights was 195 because they was making divisions and wanted a gradual move
Using your idea of a cruiser weight like division the jumps aren’t even they should look at changing the limits. Currently they are
Fly 125
Bantam 135
Feather 145
Light 155
Welter 170
Middle 185
Light heavy 205
Heavy 265
Why not merge 125 and 135 together at 130:145-155 together at 150
Now with welter and middle having such a huge jump you’d have to keep it a small tweak until 206-245 for cruiserweight and 246-285
Ok, so then you are talking about changing the weight classes, not catch weight fights. A catch weight fight is essentially “hey, I want to fight you but you aren’t in my weight class and I’m not willing to go up/down to your weight class, so let’s meet in the middle and not have it count for anything regarding rankings within either of our divisions.”
I have no attachment to the current weight class ranges, but again, what positive reason would the UFC have for completely restructuring the weight classes? Do you really think that is going to somehow stop the huge weight cuts that fights are currently making? Would changing the weight classes to larger more consistent increments improve the quality of fights? Was the 155 lb division all that much more competitive prior to the UFC creating a 145 (which it essentially absorbed when it bought out the WEC), 135 lb division, and 125 lb division?
Also if you look at the weight class jumps they are:
10 lbs
10lbs
10lbs
15lbs
15lbs
20lbs
60lbs
My contention for adding in a Cruiserweight division is that there are guys who may have a hard time making the 205 lb limit due to naturally bigger frames (Forrest, Rumble, and Jones could probably fall into this category) might still do so due to not wanting to have to fight guys at the upper weight limits of the HW range, but might be a little more willing to fight guys 235/245 (depending on whether they kept the current HW limit or expanded it to 285).
The addition of Cruiserweight would split that last 60 lb jump into two 30 or 40 lb jumps, thus giving more wiggle room for fighters to move up or down if they currently find themselves at the lower end of the HW weight class and are getting overpowered, but still can’t make LHW. I don’t think it’s going to happen any time soon, just saying that I’d like to see it happen.

Sorry forgot the others you listed.
Belfort front kick was taught to him by Steven Segal lol at least that’s what Silva allows people to think. Griffin had one hope to beat him and that was out muscle him see how that worked. Lutter didn’t even make weight for a title fight he won on TUF on the comeback season. Sonnen the best for last. Not know for his striking or Bjj skills and still out struck Silva iin the first fight and got caught, impressive to hold on. The 2nd fight was short grabbing, missed spinning backfist then a knee to the chin when grounded so its tainted. So the major of guys were given false shots or at best one dimensional he will always be the 3rd best fighter in MMA history in my eyes

silvas knee was to the chest and has been proven with slow mow cameras from multiple angles. Short grabbing? it’s a fight dont blame your lose on what shorts you wore or didnt. thats a bitches excuse.
Its called leverage. it stopped the takedown that Chael was attempting
I knew what a catch weight was I.e. Gracie/Hughes but I think the new heavy weight class would have the “soft” guys at the current HW actually start to cut weight. Guys like Brown, Arlovski, Barnett, and guys that are on the 245 line with in a 15 pound range. To me you lose more hw’s than you gain adding 20lbs to the ceiling
