Adding Carbs to Protein Shake

What can I add to my protein shakes to add carbs to them. I am in college so I dont have access to a blender, I’m forced to use instantized protein that can be disolved in my shaker bottle. What can I add into the mix to add some good carbs and calories.

A blender is only $20. Go get one. Anyone using protein shake supps should have one. If you can afford the protein, you can manage the blender. X-mas? Birthday?

It just opens up your options 100 fold and makes good sense. Especially if you buy cheaper or bulk proteins that really have little to no taste.

Otherwise you’ll have to look for liquid flavors like blueberry and raspberry, but you’ll find most of these to be high fructose corn syrup.

I don’t use a blender either I’ve added cooked oatmeal to my chocolate protein shakes in a bottle, tastes ok.

For right after/during my workouts I mix fruity protein with a fruity Gatorade flavor

I add uncooked oatmeal to mine. This actually helps the protein dissolve better in my experience. Plus the texture is great!

Of course, it depends on how many carbs you want to add… I usually add at most a quarter cup of oats = not many carbs.

There’s always sugar

I agree with sasquatch though. With a blender you can add goodies like bananas, cottage cheese, and peanut butter to your shakes.

Sucrose baby!

VS glucose?! A dissacharide of all things!

Freakin’ Canucks.

My favorite is fruit juices. Pineapple, white grape, and papaya to name a few.

I put glucose in mine… It’s actually grape sugar…

Dextrose! $5 a bag.

Excellent for post workout shakes.

wheat germ.

I have put on a couple of kilos in the last month since seeing this recommendation from you, big guy. Thanks

For post w/o I use 3.5 cups of gatorade and mix it w/ 1.5 scoop of protien. Anything wrong with the carbed make up of gatorade?

You know it’s funny, but I automatically assumed, without reason, that he didn’t mean PWO (much like I assume that “he” is male). :stuck_out_tongue:

No, as long as you’re getting enough carbs. You’ll probably want to throw glucose in there as well (PWO).

For sure. Go to the bulk foods section in the grocery store.

Commercial Gatorade is HFCS. I stay away.

The pro sports stuff is better but hard to find.
