Thanks man.Did I read right? That you are going to pray at the alter of 5/3/1?
Well, it’s kinda complicated…
No, not really. It’s an easy way to get me past the summer holidays, in one piece, and with good strength levels. Come September I’ll go back to my own 4 day template.
Whats your template look Like?

BD,you’ve used the axle bar a lot more then I have. Do you find any benefit from it? I’m not sure I did but I may not have hung in there long enough. And what exercises do you use it for? Thanks.
Would you like a simple answer or the one where I talk out my ass, so I can hear myself talk?LOL. I was using the axel for awhile for Mpress. This has been the longest Ive used it for benching. But yeah, I feel I get alot of benefit from using it.Ill bore you with a bunch of examples:)
1.I get a lot of mental benefit from it.Once I get use to having that damn piece of 3" diameter monster looking me in the face .Going back to a normal bar seems to be nothing.
2.For some damn reason using the axel seems not to stress my shoulders as much.My guess is the groove just slightly different.
3.The biggest reason im using it is for me its just a hell of alot harder to control on the eccentric part of the lift.Which has been a major head ache for me in meets on final attempts.
5.Even though im using 40 lbs less then what i can using a normal bar while using the axel It tends to force me to work harder .
Wheeewww.I know over Blown.I plan on using the axel for one more cycle after this one. Then im going back to a normal bar to get ready for a meet just to make sure my groove hasnt changed.
Great lifting. Bent rows were particularly impressive. If we only talked about lifting in here we’d get bored quick.

Template is big word…
The four days basically looks like this Squat/Bench, Bench/Dead, rest, and repeat. Right now I have no idea what to do for progression on squat and bench. Deadlift will be singles (1 day Light/medium with more reps, 1 day medium/heavy and fewer reps (some pulled from a def.)) with a rahter slow progression and focus on form and speed + rack pulls for back strength.
It’s not quite ready yet, but it will be by the end of August.
Well Im not hitting squats today.Ive had two nights in a row where ive slept less then 4 hours.I feel like death warmed over.Ill be doing squats Thursday. That is if i get a full nights sleep tonight.
BD, thanks for your axle bar findings. I have to do a cycle or two with mine soon. I’ve had some bad nights lately as well. I saw 3 am last night and was up before 6 am. Makes for a long day.

Im not going to say what you should do.Its not my place to say.(maybe the other members of the over 35 group who reads this might have a opinion about this?)

Word of advice.Dont get to worked up about worring about the progression on the squat and bench.I find the best thing is just go with your gut feeling and dont over think it.

Thanks. hope I can add a few more pounds by the end of summer.
Great training BD. You got me to dust off the axle bar and bang out some MP with it tonight. Thanks.
Very nice squatting. Looks like we had the same idea today but yours was a bit more successful. I hope you enjoyed your day off as much as I enjoyed mine.
How often do you typically squat heavy?
Great squattin’! Looking strong as hell.
good numbers maybe youll finally get over your meet issue… I think you should be able to blast past 500 this time probably. 515… I am going to wait till next spring to compete but hope to go to yours when you go… I am making baby steps and am willing to wait.
