Abused Bulldog: Just a grumpy SOB

I’d like to echo the comments about being fortunate to have a family that was there for the whole event. I have a great family, but they’re just not that interested in my weightlifting. I told my wife I’d just seen a video of an 18-year-old kid deadlifting 700lbs, and her response was “Why???”

I told her that if I had to explain she wouldn’t understand.[/quote]

I will say in that regards im lucky. My wife “gets it”.Are family is very sports oreiented. My wife is a senior member of are local youth Football league .If this tells you anything, at the Meet she was complaining how she hates geared lifters( these where her words not mine). But yeah she gets it. Another example I once asked her what type of man she found more physically attractive Brad Pitt in fight club or Doug Young ( pictured above) she said Young. She preferse a man with meat on there bones along with feeling protected .

Mine is a mix. She doesn’t get my love of lifting and sports, but she does appreciate that I am passionate about something…and loves to be there when I hit PRs, because it makes me happy.
She would definitely prefer Young over Pitt. When I got down to 222#, she didn’t like it. I still wasn’t small, but she much prefers the bulkier me. Which is good, since that is what she now has…

My family is very supportive of my lifting as well. I’m a little embarrassed to say that I discourage them from watching me compete. I get extremely nervous.

Now that you’ve reviewed the experience, Bulldog, it’s great that you’re looking ahead and already planning for another meet. I do much better when I have something specific to train towards.

My wife, honestly could care less. However at one time I was a nice 175lb guy with abs, which she loved. Now I’m a sasquatch, however, my son is starting to get an interest in it. A little young yet. I am anxiously awaiting the day we can lift together.

For me ,without my family there its not the same for me. I find it funny that your nervous with your family watching you. So a room full of strangers doesnt bother you?

Ive pretty much have in mind when and where Im going to compete in the next 12 months. Im pretty jacked up right now to get back under a bar.

the main thing is my wife cares about when im happy. She knows when I reach goals I set out for myself and I reach them. That im a happy fellow.

My son is wanting to compete in a Meet. But its going to be a few years before it will be pratical for him and I to lift together.

like I said im lucky that my wife gets it.

Well Monday I start back at it. im all rested up from the Meet. Cant realy say I was that worn down from it in the first place. As it stands im back up to 248 lbs . needless to say it been a feast for me . At any rate. like ive stated ill be doing another full Meet in April. But im also thinking of doing a bench only. Ive figure its time for me to put some real effert into it . Ive stated before im not a big fan of the bench anymore. To even sound stranger Im playing with the idea of doing the Bench Meet in… A SHIRT!!!

As ive stated before in several post Im taking responsibility for my training. Below is a general idea how will be approching things.

Bench: with bench im a big believer to get good on it you bench end of story.

Adding alot of DB presses to help add power on the bottom. Not to mention trying to add alittle direct pectorial work.

Adding some heavy tri work in the form of reverse or close grip bench along with some extension work such as Tate presses, rolling tri extensions and so forth.

Crap load of upper back work kroc rows, pull downs, heavy bent rows, pulls to throat ect

more Dirct Bicept work this is the biggest change for me( i hate the damn things) since ive been doing it as late but not with a lot of effert. people might argue the point but im a believer that as a raw bencher you need some bicept size to help stablize the bar as you lower it. For the record I dont get a lot of carry over from upper back work. So direct Biecep work is now on the menu.

For the time being any over head pressing for now will be in the form of DB in a slightly higer rep range.

Squats: not changing anything. Other then at one point I might add in some reverse band squats from time to time .

Deads: All right ,major changes here! Ill go more indepth later on. But im might add some stiff legs deads to the program along with some more direct quad work such as lunges or…Leg presses with my feet in the same position I pull from.

My training will break down like this.

Monday: Bench /DB presses / heavy tri work/heavy upper back

Weds : Squats / Deads / direct quad / lower back / Mid section

Friday: Shoulder work / Upper back / Bicept and tri / Mid section

4 week cycles 3 on with 1 deload

Well thats about it.

Benching in a shirt? Egads! That’s radical. I’m assuming you’ve never done so before?

If you’re gonna do it effectively, you have to have someone help you in all aspects (get it on and fitted right as well as spot you closely in the bench). I don’t get much gain from a shirt, but most people do.

Squatting and DLing on the same day? Ouchie.

Sounds like you’re really focused on how you’re going to move forward with your training. That’s great.

The call of the dark(er) side is strong…

“And another one bites the dust!”

Nope never have. the only true bit of equipment ive used is a light pair of squatting breiefs .
Of course thats why I dont get into the whole raw vs gear debate, since ive never used gear I have no business expression a opinion on the the subject.

Thats the draw back about playing with the idea of teying to get into geared benching is that there is no one near by to help ,with learning it.Im looking at least a hours traveling time one way to get proper coaching in it.

Ive come across a few lifters who are doing squats and deads together in the same session. The notion is since you do them together in a Meet youll get beter indication of what your strength level will be at a Meet… Which makes since to me.

To be honest I was already looking a head to my next Meet as soon as I left last weeks Meet.

Now hold on. I said im playing around wit the idea of doing a Bench only Meet in gear. And even then it will be single ply with a cheap low end shirt. I have no intenetion of doing a full Meet in gear.

That’s how it starts. One little puff on a single ply shirt, next thing you know you are wearing a triple-ply canvas squat suit first thing every morning just to stop your hands from shaking.

Hmmm, it was about a year and a half ago I got a really loose low end shirt and did a meet in it. No, it was not a gateway drug at all. I don’t jump for joy every time an Inzer or Titan or Elite box is waiting for me after work. I am not addicted. I can stop any time…

If you are gonna BOF a geared meet, don’t go too cheap end on the single ply. Fury or F6 it… you will be happy.

Thanks for the Input Pete. Ill Look into the Fury and the F6. Right now im just thinking about at this point, just getting a Inzer blast shirt then when I get the hang of it . Then Ill move up.

Hitting it tommorrow. I find that im bitting at the bit. As it stands i now have a major chip on my shoulder. I am feeling mean and agressive.
