Abused Bulldog: Just a grumpy SOB

I thought I’d add a couple more thoughts. I won’t say ‘cheer up’ you did a great job despite the fact that you did well by many people’s standards. The only standards by which to judge your performance are your own.

My ego has had an ass kicking at more than one meet and it takes the wind out of my sails every single time. Lick your wounds, learn from your mistakes and move on to the next one. You only did poorly if you don’t do this

You are still one strong bastard.

Bulldog - great job getting on the platform and getting it done. Lessons learned and it’ll be even better next go around.

Absolutely loved watching your vids and reading your commentary about the meet. Thanks so much for sharing that with us. Sometimes I think the buildup can be so intense that there’s nothing left when the meet rolls around. Especially if you were dieting and fasting! But truly, you did just fine. Your numbers are really, really good. Live and learn. Like everything in life, it’s an experience that you can learn from and apply to your next meet. And there will be a next one!

Why don’t you take a liftoff in bench even for your opener?

I can’t get your DL vids to load but will check back later on those.

Good job, Bulldog!

thanks “KP” yeah there be more Meets right now im eye Balling around a April Meet.

As for the lift offs. I did take one for the 2nd and 3rd> The first one wasnt the big of the deal to me >Besides I train alone 95% of the time so im use to not having one in the first place.

It all looked damn good from this end. You may be disappointed in your performance, and I understand that, having been there many times before. But the only way you should be ashamed is if you failed to learn anything or fail to apply what you learned to your next time out. As Harry pointed out, just the example you are setting for your boys makes it all stellar. Good work here.
Thanks. I agree with you. If I dont learn anything from this little go around then im a idiot. But it goes with the terrttory. I guess you could say im earning my stripes.

Just stopping by to see how the adults are training. Congrats on your meet! Sounds like you learned some great lessons but please don’t let anything detract from the numbers you did pull. I’m impressed.
Thank ya

hey man sorry I didnt stop and say hi yesterday you were busy with the team and I had been up for 18 or so hours when I was at the feild. this weekend was super rough on me but I think we put a total of 14 guys in jail this weekend so it was worth it.

Anywho you did pretty good at your meet as far as I am concerned I feel bad not going with you. I think you need to stay at the weight you are at. You look MUCH healthier and I know that you have to feel better. The weights will move with time and you will reach your goals on the platform but you dont have to weight 265 to do it.
Dont worry about yesterday.

Well as body weight goes. I plan on staying around this weight and not letting my weight ballon to a stupid level. More then lickely push some GPP. But im not going to stress out in staying in the 242’s .If im there the next go around great. If not oh well. Unless i get a wild hair about going after a record or try for a high ranking then maybe but that in all reality isnt a big deal at this point for little old me.

x2 experience is a damn fine teacher.
True. Like the saying goes a person learns more from failure then they do from victories. Even if failures sucks.

I know that by some people standards I did well. But Im such a hard ass when it comes to what I expect out of myself.

I will say for myself the wind didnt get taken out of my sails. Like I stated before this just lights a fire under my ass.

Strong bastard? Maybe semi strong. But Im no where close to what I would considered strong.Luckly Ive still got a few years left to reach that level.

Thanks “Strict” As we speak ive been going over the Video looking over my form. And planning my training for the next Meet down the road.

I would like to take time out and thank all of you who have taken time out and given me positive feedback on my less then steller proformansce at my last Meet . For that I thank you all . It means more to me then you can know. It just strengthen my opinion of the high quality of people that inhabits the over 35 forum on this site. again from my heart I thank you for your input and positive remarks.

WARNING: This is going to be a very long winded post.( youve been warned)

Ive had time do digest the FUBAR mess, that was my last Meet and have taken notes. Here are a few lessons ive come away from it.

Well ive " man upped " as my wife says. Im now looking at the postive things from the Meet.

Bench : I had more cotrol over the weight on my third attempt with over 400 more so, then in the past. It seems that the time spent using the axel had carry over to my bench. Not to mention that the second attempt with 375 wasnt that hard even if I was having issue leading up to the Meet with my form the strength and control was there.

Squats: I cant realy complain. Again my form was descent not perfect. Even if I didnt get over 500 past. I was able to hit depth on the last attempt and didnt get stuck in the hole.

Deads: OK nothing postive to say . Other then I just whimped out. 500 openner felt like nothing so thats good. At least I can say my poor preformance was more mental then physical.

Things I Learned:

First and fore most Ive learned that 12 hours isnt enougth time for my system to rebound from eating a diet extremly low carb intake. Plus a 24 hour fast. Strangley enougth my energy level was through the roof Sunday. Due to all the food and fluid I was takeing in after The Meet.Go figure.

Another is that I need to do a few Meets a year to keep a fire lite under my ass to keep me progression.( I dont think this wouldnt be needed if I actualy trained with other serious people but since I dont a Meet will have to do).

Trophys means nothing to me, progrees does ( alright, I already knew this about myself I figured id just add it)

I realy hate drawn out Meets.

Light openner, light openner , light openner

dont forget to bring my own music .

Thats out of the way.

Well im sure most of you can guess im doing the smart thing and not doing anything in regards to any type of trainning. I will be hitting it next Monday. as it stands as ive posted above Im looking at hitting another Meet in april. It will be a NASA MEET . Why? For one I just payed for a membership card which is good up to one year from the date of purchase. Second I think the " Damutt" is going to try it out for the first time. Or should I say he will even if I have to take him kicking and screaming.( You reading this my friend?)

I know I’m a little late, but congrats on the meet. You still hit some great numbers, and next time around I’m sure you’ll kick ass even more.

Thanks Scott. Heres to you being right.

I’m a meet junkie and probably do more than I should. I just purely love competing or being there and coaching. Since I started competing, I always know when my next one is when I’m done my current one. It’s the thing I focus on to pull me forward and plan my training. It sounds like this is kind of what you’re planning on; setting a time centred goal for training.

Late to the party…

There have been many helpful comments already made powerlifting wise, there really are a lot of great folks in this forum.

I will add my .02: they say you can tell a lot about a man by the company he keeps. Well, the fact that your whole family trekked to the meet, and supported you, enthusiastically, for the entire day, is a good indication of how well you are doing at Life. Kudos to you Bulldog.

I’d like to echo the comments about being fortunate to have a family that was there for the whole event. I have a great family, but they’re just not that interested in my weightlifting. I told my wife I’d just seen a video of an 18-year-old kid deadlifting 700lbs, and her response was “Why???”

I told her that if I had to explain she wouldn’t understand.

Yeah , I have found that for me , having to work against a deadline keeps me motivated. It seems that to long of a spanse of time I start to get to confortable with my current strength level. Not saying that im not self motivated. But subconssiousley I need the promise of battle to realy light a fire in my soul.

Thanks for the compliment. I may not be well off in regards to material possesions. But again im not a materalistic person. But I do have a wife who is my best friend a two great kids even if at times I love them so much that I just want to hug and squeese them till there little heads pop off.( ok that was a joke)
