Abused Bulldog: Just a grumpy SOB

I have to agree with you Joe. I feel that changing up somethigs will help me mentaly.Im finding that Im growing a little bored with 5/3/1 and I need to spice a few things up.Plus like I said its high time that I just need to think for myself.

The time is coming for me to leave the Cult of 5/3/1 .I feel that since ive been back at it ive been holding myself back by not trusting my own gut feelings and knowledge about myself and blindly following other peoples programs. So its time for me to steal a few pages from the 5/3/1 bible.Turn in my robe and souvenir 8 X 10 glossy of Wendler.
That is the perfect clip for your 5/3/1 departure! Dear God, I hope that mj isn’t able to use The Force.
Well if mj has the force then this will be the outcome. just go up til the 20 second mark.

9/17/10

warm up; Light DB movements

Seated DB Press: 40 X 12/ 60 X 10 / 80 X 6 /80 X 10…Havent done seated DB Press in a few years.

Lat Pulldowns: 4 X 10 X some weight

Strict lying db Extensions: 4 x 6-8 X wimpy weight…I havent done these in over a year or more ,not worth stating the weight.

Cypex arm curl: strip set for a total of 40 reps

Well I was going to do bench tonight. But my left shoulder was not feeling great today .But I felt like doing something so I just went to the YMCA and messed around.Nothing real heavy or hardcore just got some blood moving.Monday ill hit the bench hard and heavy.

For anyone one at home playing the home game and following this log I might as well go into more detail about the dropping of 5/3/1.First off I respect Wendler as a writter and he knows his shit. I still feel 531 is a good program(but not for me).but like ive stated before ive grown a little bored with it plus at some levels im feeling some what trapped by it.And again as I said before i just want to take more resposibility for the end result of my training and not ride the coat tails of another persons program and if somthing goes wrong I cant place blame on someone other then myself. Its not like this is my first time at the rodeo.

My training will still have parts of 5/3/1 in it as well as a little" westside".The only huge changes at this point has been putting squats with pulls on the same day. The squats will stay 531 but the deads will be at more of the maximal range with lower reps. The heavy stuff will be done every other week with speed pulls done in between. So at most ill will only pull heavy about every 14 days. also you might notice some different assistance movements added not to mention more stress place on hypertrophy work for certain body parts.Another thing is as much as it makes me sad ill be putting Mpress on the back burnner for a little while.Only thing that doesnt change is that I still will have a deload week.

So what program will you be doing? Writing your own?
I wouldnt call it so much writing my own.More like ripping off certain concepts from others that has worked for me and putting them together to fit myself.
I think that’s a great idea. It’s not as if you’re a beginner. I did the same thing last winter after Provincials. I’d been following a modified sheiko for a while and kind of liked it. However, I was advised by a number of people to drop the shit ton of volume. When I put together my own template stealing things I liked from others, my numbers went up and up almost hitting average.

You would know better than anyone, what has worked well for you and what hasn’t. If there were one ‘be all and end all’ template we’d all be rock stars of the lifting world. There is as much thinking sometimes as there is lifting.

Your very right on the whole no perfect templete thing. Following other programs since ive been back at it has helped me relearn my body.On the other hand it has made me a coward to step outside of the Dogma which youll find in a lot of programs.look at “Westside”.They live and die by the Box squat.Myself I get “0” from them. Speed bench, samething. And anyone whoes been following my log is aware of my dead lift issues with 531.So like yourself ,as you stated im stealing things from others that I like and feel that will work for myself.Along with stepping outside the box and ignoring certain “Dogmas” ive picked up.Not to mention just having a little more fun doing it ,because i will not have to worry about stepping outside of the lines drawn by someones elses program.

Tear it up, bulldog. No one knows you like you.

A few weeks ago I was messing around with a camera.I had gotten a wild hair up my butt after seeing all the guys on T-Nation who post pics of there “guns”. For ha ha’s I took this pic of myself. Now I dont feel left out.( for the record this is the last time im posting crap like this… i feel dirty for some reason.)

Was busy yesterday.Had to badysit are youth Football players as they marched in a local parade. Then had practice after that. Then sat with the wife at a booth for the program at are local Fall Festival on and off until 9:30 last night.Today have to drive around 40 minutes to help coach a game today.

You are a busy man. The kids will be better for it.

Busy is too light of a word this weekend.

I can certainly see from your pic why you’re a good bencher! Strong upper body, for sure.

I always feel silly posting pics of myself, too.

It will be interesting to see how your new program works for you. The beauty is that you can always tweak it to better suit your needs.

yeah im starting to regret posting it in retrospect

ok so now I dare you to post a pic of the wheels… come on man you can do it… I love pokeing fun at you

Hope nobody got hurt! Those reverse grip seem pretty risky to me. But I know MM does them and makes them look easy.
