Abused Bulldog: Just a grumpy SOB

i think you are on the right track to not caring about the records. i would like to think my view of competing has evolved over the years. i used to only care about what records i could break. now i only care about doing better than the last time. i don’t worry about what i’m going to weigh in at or what division i’m competing in. in my eyes there’s only the OPEN.

competing against myself is enough for me now.

and on the other end of the spectrum - Competing against myself in a public, hopefully objectively judged meet is the only reason I bother since I’m so far away from records

that’s another reason to not get caught up in records. judging is not always fair. one person could be redlighted and another lifter can get whites for the same lift. i’ve seen some big name lifters get whites before the lift was even finished. i just shake my head and do MY best. records are crap. it’s good to see what others are doing to see where you fall in the order of things but to focus everything on breaking some record isn’t the point of all of this.

that’s my opinion anyway…

IMO, this is truly the beauty of this sport.

Ahmen brother “Meat” I view the whole record thing as nothing more then mile markers. They just tell me how far im from my goal. Lets be honest with all the differant Feds and classes they just realy dont mean as much as they use to. Like you, as long as I see progress from meet to meet im a happy guy.Anymore records and trophys arent that big of deal to me.But busting my ass and seeing result is.

I was about to agree with everyone til I really thought about it and was honest with myself. I’m a competitive sob. It’s been a little over 3 1/2 years since my last push/pull meet but I know in the throws my practice throws are nowhere near the distances of my competition throws. It’s about the competition. If it was all about personals bests I’d just go out in a field and see what I could do. Save a lot of time and travel. If I do my best and lose, I’m not disappointed at all. But in all truthfullness I go out to crush my enemies, see them driven before…, sorry, I mean win. And if I may finish with a quote “He is a real ASS HOLE.I’ll take great pleasure in crushing his record in the state meet next spring.” And I hope you do.

I suspect many of us are more competitive than we are willing to admit. Not me, of course.

Alright I admit that I might not be worried about records. But like you, I can be a little over competitive.Nothing bugs me more then someone in my class making me look like shit.

Not how I wanted my first squatting session to go for this meet. First I get home and my wife rips me a “new one”. PM’S time ,a week of hell for me.Every one run for the hills the beast is loose.“Good God” At any rate I just didnt have any “pop” out of the hole plus my “hams” felt weak I was a little shakey going into the hole. Lets see what happens next week.

My sympathies.

Know the difference between a terrorist and a woman with PMS?
You can reason with a terrorist.
Lot of run up to the big squat set. Bigger jumps and you would of got it.
