Abused Bulldog: Just a grumpy SOB

8/26/10

(Deload)

Jack and shit

This time of year like clock work the kids I coach (freaking little walking Bio weapons)give me a gift of there germs. UGH!!! I feel like ive been hit by a truck. My muscle and joints ache and ive had to fight the urge to puke most of the work day.Looks like ill be downing some Nyquil tonight. Needless to say since this week is a deload i skipped training today.I hope i get over this crap by Monday since thats when my training is going to kick into high gear for my next meet.

Hell got to coach tonight.Going to be fun hope I dont blow chow on the field.

Warning:long winded post

Right off the bat im goinng to warn anyone who might be following any of my post, your not going to gain any insight into how to properly peak for a meet.In the past ive have used a pretty simple program, bust my ass for a few weeks and at a certain point back off before the meet and hope for the best.No complex block periodzation, nothing. At any rate here is how my program is going to run starting Monday. By the way I would like to thank “Fisher” and “Punnyguy” for two post which have given me ideas on how im going to get ready for my meet.

Break down:

First off Im running two 5/3/1 cycles back to back with no deload.

Deadlifts -Staying with 5/3/1 ( since im screwed at this point anyway)but using estamated max from last rep pr also going to add extra work sets.

Example: 5x65%,5x75%,5x85% then 3 work sets 80% x 3 on the following weeks ill go 85% and
90% for 3 sets of 2 ( for the record im going by the" Prilepin’s table" on this one )

Week 6: Ill just do some speed pulls to allow myself to recover from the beating ill be giving myself.

The only assistance exercise I will do on dead day will be some direct midsection work since I want my whole focus to be on deads.( tip of the hat to Fisher)

Bench:Not to worried about bench Ill be going off my last training max I used on bench before I started using the Axel.

Ill be using a tweaked version on 5/3/1(info provided by Punnyguy)

 Example week 1 : 65% X 5 ,75% x 5, 85%x5, 75% x 5, 65% x as many reps before failure
         Week 2:70% x3 ,80% x3 , 90% x3 ,80% x3 , 70 % x same as week one
         week 3: 75% x 5 , 85% x 3 , meet first attempt x 3
         week4: same as week 1
         week5: same as week 2
         week6: 75% x5 , 85% x3 ,92.5 % x 3 of second attempt weight

On bench day the only other thing ill do is some type of rowing.

Squats: Its all good ,not changing a damn thing. Only thing is the second part of the cycle I will only do the called for reps and on week six I will not do 95% x1 I will just do my openner x 1.

I will keeping all my normal assistance exercises on this day.

Mpresses: No real change here either other then the second half of this mega-cycle Ill just do the called for reps. Ill be doing the same amount of assistance exercises.

Cutting Weight: My weight is dropping faster then a Prom Queens dress on prom night. As it stands im only 6 lbs from making weight.Once I hit weight Ill up the food intake and stay put.If I need to drop any weight at the last minute I have a 14 hour window from early weigh ins and the start of the meet.

Well thats about it. Come Monday Let the fun begin.

good plan hope it goes well for you what are you hoping to do for number or will you make that decision closer to the meet.

^^^ I already have in mind what I plan to open with and my second attempts.Id rather not put added pressure on myself and saying it out loud at this point.

Thanks for posting that.

I have a meet coming up in November and its nice to see how folks prep.

Glad my post helped you, though all I did was link you to Paul Carter’s stuff.

Another .02 thought -have you ever tried visualization “practice”? For example: find a video(s) of a guy who is deadlifting the weight you want, with the form you want, “photoshop” your head onto his head, and play that video over and over in your head, especially right before you fall asleep. Imo, this type of thing gives you a “brain memory” (sort of like muscle memory) to fall back on under the stress of competition; in case the conscious brain freezes, the sub-conscious can take over and access that video for your body to follow. (hope that didn’t just sound like mumbo-jumbo)

edit: almost forgot the most important thing, the link to this video!: English Bulldog watching TV (Family Guy) sitting on a couch - YouTube

^^ First off love the Bulldog video kind of ironic that I myself have started up watching Family Guy .Second good tip on visuailization. Im a big fan of visuailization.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with stating your goals even if you don’t reach them. No one will judge. It’s good to shoot for the stars. Shit, we’ll all be dead and buried in 40 or so years.

What about adding some singles for your deadlift at the end of your training sessions? Just to get used to pulling max weight?

I will state that my goal is to total 1500+ raw at this meet. There ive said it out loud.So if I now end up putting to much pressure on myself at the meet and I dont hit it Ill just blame you. LOL.

Since im uping my training max up by 30 lbs. Which is now a little closer to a true max im not going to worry about pulling heavy singles since ill be pulling in a more maximal range. Plus I dont want to overdue it since the extra work set will realy up my over all work load.

what’s your best meet total thus far??

To be honest Meat, I havent done a meet in the past 11 months. 1500 will be a pr total for me.Not to sound like a “key board lifter”.But up to this point my total at meets hasvent been shit in my eyes.To the point id rather not say.Lets just say the past few meets ive done havent been the best for me.Lets just say I have a score that needs to be settled with the platform.

The platform sounds like it deserves a good ass-kicking. Show it no mercy.

Ahh, the male ego. Cracks me up. I predict you will do awesome. I’m certainly pulling for you.

Yeah either ill kick its ass or ill get my ass kicked by it.

8/29/2010

Warm up: foam roller
superset:standing ab crunches/heavy Band GM’s:3 X 10
light stretching

Deadlifts:135 X 5
230 X 5
290 X 5…played around with these first 3 sets with a double overhand hook grip.
345 X 3
375 X 5…added belt
435 X 5
490 x 5… got 2 1/2 could not lock out the third rep. Alright I have to eat shit since I upped my training max by 30lbs .So ill eat crap and go down 20 lbs on my training max since it will follow the normal progression I was doing.I dropped weight for the extra work sets.

Extra work sets:(via of Fisher) 445 X 3 X 3…Not bad ,the extra volume wasnt as bad as I thought.

AB wheel: 5 X 10

I was feeling good today .So why wait until Monday? I loaded up on some carbs last night.(private message to the Damutt:Yes I ate some crap and yes I am paying for it.)Like I stated above upping the trainning max up was to much.I am going to put the ego on hold and just play it smart. But the extra work sets I feel are going to help out.

I found this video from a nasa meet i did back in Feb of 09. This was 380 and it got passed. At the time I wasnt sure why .I wouldnt have passed it.

I don’t know why it wouldn’t be passed. You had uneven extension but it didn’t look to me like the bar changed direction. Why wouldn’t you pass it?

I like your kids in the back ground.

When is the meet? Oct. 30?
