Abused Bulldog: Just a grumpy SOB

Do you find that 5/3/1 trains you to pull increasingly heavy singles like you need to do on the platform?

Great take down and pin. Lot of room to grow. Badass, no knee pads. Oh, your liftings doing good, too.
Yeah the little S.O.B hates wearing knee pads.He doesnt like wearing a mouth piece. He had to during freestyle. But not in Jr.high wrestling. He ended up lossing a tooth this year over it.

Nice deadlifting. Your son looked good wrestling, brings back memories of my grade school wrestling times.

som when you going to drop that axle and see what you can do… you just planning on 5/3/1 till the meet or do you have something special planned
the axel will be dropped at the end of this cycle.Im going to deload then run two cycles back to back with no deload. The first 1/2 of the cycle will be balls too the wall.this will be the time frame where Ill have a general idea what I will open with at the meet. The second part will just me doing the called for reps nothing else no pr’s no extra reps no stupid stuff with the assistance exercises.during this period Ill be pausing each rep on the bench and on squats Ill have Becca drop me deeper then need on squats. On each half of the cycle I will bump up my training max as normal.my last training day will be over a week out from the meet.

For me? Two words.Hell No!! Thats the only draw back Ive found for me with 5/3/1.I dont know if it is mental or what but doing rep training on deads isnt the best for me.Everything else its been working great .The past 3 cycles ive been using a training max way below my actual max.And Ive found in the past that using a max calculator does not even come close in telling me what I can pull. This Monday I plan to pull some heavy singles after my last work set to get a idea where I stand .

Not real happy about today. The heat is starting to rise again and I was running short on time, I had to coach tonight. So I cut front squats short in favour of GM’s and extra core work. Just couldnt get in the right frame of mind tonight.

Right frame of mind or not, nice work!
Outside obligations, especially seasonal ones, can really knock one off kilter.

Hey Bulldog, just found your log. Do you do 5-3-1 4 days or 3 days a week. If you don’t mind, share how you split your training week up.

How are you making out with the diet clean up? I think if you cut out or clean up a couple of things you’ll be surprised at the effect it has.

That’s a nice video of your boy. The really good thing is he’s already got some great deadlift shoes for himself.

Looking goog BD! we’re all allowed an “I’m not doing Jack Shit” day once in awhile. Get in, get it done, and get the F*** out!

With as hot as it is you should have a not doing jack week…thats about what I am doing… however I do seem to be progressing on my 2 day a week program so I will continue

Thanks for asking :)To be honest Ive had to do diet clean up on several different times since Ive been back at it.Ill be honest im the laziest S.O.B when it comes to keeping tabs on what I eat. I hate counting calories .Its a pain in the ass for me.But since ive dropped the flour out of the diet.Ive dropped so far about 10 lbs. Most just being extra water weight .Im still tweaking a few things.Such as adding more dietary fats plus uping my protien intake. But im pretty happy how things are going in this short amount of time.I should be able to drop below 242 with out alot of problems.Without lossing any strength.

Good point about the shoes:)

3 days is my limit.Anymore then that, my old ass doesnt recover worth a damn.Split wise I just rotate the 4 main lifts

Monday:Bench

Tues:off

Wed:Squat

Thur:off

Fri:M press

Sat:off

Sun:off

Mon:deads

Tues:off

Wed:Bench

Thats about it . I just keep it simple.

Ive got a bad feeling with coaching football and doing two cycles back to back with out a deload im going to end up having a few more “I’m not doing Jack Shit” days :frowning: If I want too or not.

I think im going to have to break down and go to the YMCA more often.OH JOY!!!

8/13/2010

warm up:Light DB movements A freaking lot of them
light stretching(Plus during Mpresses).

MPress:Barx3x10
95X5
120x5
145x3
180x5
200x3
225x1
200x3
180x5+…went ahead and did 12

Dips: BW 5x10, super set with neutral grip pullups: 7x5

Machine arm curls: Dont even ask why .I was feeling the inner Bodybuilder coming out of the closet …now where did I lay the baby oil?

Pulls to throat:3x12x 100 lbs

Went to the local YMCA to beat the heat. I wasnt sure how today was going to turn out.My left shoulder felt like crap. The heavy walk out the other day beat the hell out of it. As you can see from above I warmed the hell out of it and got some work out of it.Needless to say its time to get some ice on it and pop some Ibuprofen.

After Mp’s like that, nothing wrong with some machine arm curls.

Those are some serious MPs BD.
