A Work in Progress

I <3 Krista…she’s awesome!
Because I feel like procrastinating today, I’m going to read up on her log!

She’s an amazing coach within the LE program, and I’ll be sad when it’s over…but I’ve learned a lot!

Good news! I’m not broken…just worn down. My physical therapist wasn’t a ‘Helga,’ afte rall…but a very knowledgeable dude who gave me the thumbs up to keep training as I am!!

Minus the leg extension machine, and no running…(darn) haha…He gave me some stretches to do for now…and next week we will start with the strengthening stuff…

There’s hope for me yet! :stuck_out_tongue:

Can you define “worn down” and what that means for training and joint health long term? I have crunchy knees that ache off and on so I’m interested. Also, what stretches?

Sure!
The only thing is that I didn’t get an exact diagnosis, but it sounds like something called chrondomalacia patella?
Here is an article that can explain it better than me!

Stretches 3x/day 30s each time/side

standing quad stretch

And also:

Pretty basic stuff, but stretching, admittedly isn’t something that I have been faithfully doing! Riding the bike is also in my regimen(something I’ve already been doing!) And no running/jumping…so if that sounds like something you have going on, you might want to get some further advice! You only have two knees… Just be mindful of your training…if it hurts, don’t do it, especially if you already suspect something going on…For me I would do it anyway, and pay later…meh.

And if you train legs a lot, it’s important not to ignore the other parts, like the inner and outer thigh! I think those add/abbducting machines are pretty good…

I hopped on the scale this morning just because, and I’m down another lb from yesterday!!
I don’t understand fully, but I’ll take it!

The scale is a funny thing.

So how was the BL class and you did start a new program today right??? DETAILS…

grr, I hate when I can’t see the posts before me! Does that happen to anyone else?

Hey Jenny-
The Biggest Loser class was good! Although I did all the things I’m not supposed to(running, jumping, all that stuff) And my knees were KILLING me…oh well, I’m still alive. I really suck with the kind of endurance needed for the things we were doing! I hope to be able to work on that someday SOON!

I didn’t start the program yesterday…it was snowing and I didn’t even know if Id make it out of the house…I did make it out though, and did chest/triceps…

Today, I’m stuck at home with the kiddies(they have ANOTHER snow day!!) so I might do the leg workout from P90X! :open_mouth:

In my quest for detoxifying my diet, I’m going to be experimenting with going Vegan for the week!

I’ve always been intrigued, and it sounds like it will make eating much simpler!!

Wish me luck! :stuck_out_tongue:

Seriously? I think going vegan would be one of the hardest thing EVER!!! I mean NOTHING derived from animal products? No whey? No casein? no egg whites? no honey? no cottage cheese? AAAGGHH!!!

Hahahah… good luck Betty! Let us know how it goes!

well, I’ve already eliminated dairy, and I don’t care for eggs anyway! :stuck_out_tongue: I’m also on a no sugar/wheat(flour) challenge, so I figured why not?!

It’s just for the week…whats the worse that can happen? I turn into a vegetable? haha! Or maybe I’ll really like it!

I love trying new things, and getting first hand experience…My goal is to be working in the health/fitness whatever field you want to call it soon, and Id like to be able to say, ‘yep, I’ve done that!’ And actually have some info/experience to back it up…

Shoot you never know…maybe I’ll just have to compete in everything while Im at it!

Bodybuilding
Powerlifting
Triathalon
Strongman

You only live once, right?! :stuck_out_tongue:

Great attitude Betty! I wasn’t saying it was a bad idea at all… it just seems SO TOUGH to find foods that I like that are vegan =D
I am afraid I would starve to death. But I agree… I think trying different diets/lifestyles is a good idea if you will be working in the health/fitness field! =D

Think a shit load of as many veggies as you want…and different things too, like eggplant and spaghetti squash…
Throw in some beans, fruit and good fats, and VOILA! you’re a vegan

Only, I don’t do soy since it appears that it is a suppressor of the thyroid anyway…

Oh man…I’ve this P90X dvd collection sitting on the shelf since x-mas(got it as a gift) and I figured since I was home with the kids today(another snow day! :O) that I’d see what it was about…holy high repness batman!!

It was leg/back day…let’s just say I didn’t even do the cardio intervals I had planned on afterward!!

Don’t knock it til you try it! That’s what I say
And in effort to get my lazy husband to start DOING SOMETHING,and for me to kick it up a notch(hey, Summer is around the corner) I’m going to do it with him! I’ll be working out twice a day! insanity…I won’t force myself, and if I’m tired/sore, then forget it…I have to play nice with the adrenals afterall…

Gemma Protein Shake w/
1/2tbsp greens(still working up to it)
1cup frozen fruit(strawberries, pineapple, mango)
3 fish oils

1 cup chick peas
12 olives
1 tomato

1 tbsp mayo

Another shake,minus the greens

1 cup black beans
1 cup mushrooms
1/2 cup southwestern corn
sauted w/1tbsp olive oil

For the number crunchers!
Total
1,409
50.5(F)
166.7(C)
98.4(P)

And I got about 45 grams fiber…

My food log can be found here…

http://fitday.com/fitness/PublicJour...ner=mominmaine

And PS-I wasn’t starving!! :stuck_out_tongue:

98.4 g of protein??? Have you jumped on the crazy train??? I have to hand it to you though, I would never…ever go vegan! What would I do with out steak and chicken? Starve like you did I guess. Hope it works out for you. Like you said at least you can say you tried it. I started the WFW today. Felt great.

Vegan! Are you worried you will have stomach distress? I love hummus and peanut butter. Are your energy levels the same? Was it hard with the rest of your family eating other things?

What Im learning is that vegan diets are typically lower in protein and higher in carbs(but more fiber)

The new edition of PN even has a whole section for plant based diets…

Don’t freak out on me ladies, LOL! It’s only for one week of my life… :stuck_out_tongue: Or maybe I’ll really like it!

Besides, I just felt like I needed a break and to make things simple! I’ll add things back in soon…

My energy was no different today than it has been, and my tummy is just fine…not a gas bubble in sight…I was getting horribly bloated and gassy from the eggs and dairy though, ugh!

Cool about the program, Jenny! It sounds like a good fit for you! I’m still contemplating on what to do next…but with all these dietary changes I’ve been making, I think its safer to stay put for awhile!

It was one of those days where I had to talk myself into going to the gym…I probably shouldn’t have gone, but I’m glad I did…nothing a little red bull didn’t fix…

I FINALLY moved up to 40s on the db bench press…yay… 3x12!!

ew, I cooked a whole bag of brussel sprouts…they smell worse than my shoes…bleeeech!

try roasting the brussel sprouts…
much nicer.

vegan can be tough… I did it for years,
now I do fish, egss, some dairy.
good luck and nice work in the gym
