A Work in Progress

I don’t believe that cardio and eating are the only factors to weight loss. Training, stress reduction, environment, mental clarity and rest are also important. Each person is going to be different, so applying a percentage to those factors is useless.

I had a girl come in this week who lost 60lbs doing cardio, eating well and doing some weight training, but nothing I’d ever recommend. She needs to drop another 20-30, but has no muscle tone. The type of resistance training you do is definitely going to be a deciding factor in how you end up looking.

Call your guy out a bit on the charge, if anything maybe he’ll think twice about printing stuff up off the web blatantly. But the bottom line here is if you like working with him and the program is sound (hey, you have a certification right, you should know if it’s sound) then keep at it.

If he can get you going and you learn how to work with a higher intensity it will be worth it.
How’s the PN program going?

Thanks Diana-
I agree, there are lots of factors to weight loss…but most everyone talks about diet/exercise mainly.

I talked to Victor(trainer) and he admitted that he was swamped that morning that he printed off my routine, and was running late, etc…I dunno…he sounded sincere.I let him know that I know of bodybuilding.com and I wasn’t impressed. He apologized a million times of course. So at least now he knows I’m not so naive.
I like the routine he gave me…it’s a 4-day split, which I’ve never done before, so it will take some time to stick to it to see what I think…I’m supposed to give it a solid 4 weeks at least, so today was day 1

Man, I wish I was in a better place physically. I found out that a couple of the PT’s transferred…In other words they are a little short handed at the gym now. Oh well…6 more months…I want to be at a weight I am comfy with, even if its not my goal weight…in the freakin 180s would be awesome at this point…Plus I start working on my Nutrition cert, and maybe that will give me more of an edge…and at the end of this year Ill have my Associates in Sports Management…

The PN program is good. Im behind in lessons though. I was at the ILs who live on a farm. MIL has dial up still, lol…So I have catching up to do!!

That’s great that HE knows that YOU know what’s up and that you won’t be screwed with. Keeps things honest.
Most gyms are always looking for a good PT, in my city anyways. They make money from us, plain and simple.
On to day 2 with mental clarity, focus and intensity. I have a good feeling about this round! Keep us posted.

HaHa…ROUND 2, FIGHT! I like that. I’m feeling optimistic as well.

My favorite thing to say aloud lately is, ‘Is this behavior matching my goals?’

Thanks Diana!

How’d you figure it out?

Because Bodybuilding.com was sprawled across the top of the pages he gave me, lol…

Thanks Diana- I know there is no magic program that trainers hand out, haha…I wish there was!! I was just a little put off is all.

I have to say that is lazy. At the very least he should have his own template, maybe he needs a graphics hook-up.
Still, if the program fits your needs, follow it. Ask him if the 30$ he is charging is for the time he spent researching the net, is it for the free session he gives with every program or is it for telephone/e-mail support? Be straight faced and serious, I think he needs to offer some justification to you.
Did you like working with him before the holidays? [/quote]

Don’t get too down on your trainer, unnecessarily. BB.com supplies a blank template and in some cases a ‘suggested’ set of exercises depending upon goals, training methods, etc… If the trainer took available info and customized for you, then I don’t see a problem. If he just typed bb.com’s search feature for your goal and copied the suggested generic program, then that might be a problem if you feel that some customization was in order. It is easy to check, just search in bb.com for your workout and see if it is word for word. Start with your goal and use the words program or workout.

I myself have taken the blank or using the generic as a starting point created my own log(s) adding in my own notes like goals for the day/week/month. I do like searching their database for the exercises and routines and copying and pasting sheet. My handwriting is horrible.

They come across as an excel file. And yes, he would get a lot less headache if he got rid of the header.

Thanks CG-

I watch my trainer when he’s with other clients, and at least he’s not using the same workouts for everyone!
I respect that he knows what he’s doing, so I’m just going to let the little thing slide.
I also found out he earned his pro card in the USBF nationals in Baltimore this past November!

I joined the ‘Biggest Loser,’ comp. at the gym…I figure why not?! They put you in small groups of 3-4 and group training is included! You compete for prizes, etc… A little incentive never hurt anyone!

It’s the end of the week, and I’m sore all over! love it in a weird way…

I faithfully did my cardio after training today, and I tried out the eliptical…I HATE that thing!!! I lasted 17 min until the bottom of my feet fell asleep…I’d rather walk up a hill any day!

I think I may go try out a yoga class in the morning…I’ve never taken a class, let alone yoga!

Interesting…my feet sometimes fall asleep a bit on the elliptical too.

Ya’ll might need new shoes. My feet used to get all numb from the elliptical until I got new runners.

I love that machine, so much that I bought a commercial grade one for home.

I know I need new shoes…the thing that sucks is that I have a size 10.5(in women’s) and for some reason here in the states they don’t sell that size in the stores :grumble: So I’ve been stuck with mens shoes…

Had a good workout…occasionly I’ll do a couple heavy sets on the bench to make sure I still got it.
After my 3x12x75 I did 1x5x100 1x3x105
I felt cool, cause a girl next to me was struggling with just the bar…

Oh, and I jogged…ME! It was more like jog til I was out of breath and walk til I could breath again…it was fun, and made the 30min go by faster…funny thing is though, every time I jog, I start humming cadence from bootcamp…which was 12 years ago, LOL!! I guess they really drilled it into my head.

I signed up for ‘the biggest loser,’ comp. today too…I think it will be fun…and you get free group training and a few one-on-one sessions…Maybe working out with real live people with the same goals of fat loss will be another little kick I need…My competitive side tends to come out as well(ya, its in there somewhere) when given a physical challenge…

How’s everyone doing?

I had a good workout today…I went for a heavy set of squats after doing 3x12x95…funny thing is that I thought I put 2.5lb plates for 90lbs, but really they were 5lb plates! At the end I did 1x3x135!

Never put the big wheels on before  And then I was feeling adventurous and went for 155, and got one rep for giggles…maybe it’s the ‘magical,’ powers of the HOT-ROX I took…

My trainer approached me and said that he wants to hold a ‘strongest lady in the gym,’ contest and asked if I would be interested…HELL ya I am!
It will be the squat, bench, and deadlift…I have my competition cut out for me apparently, cause there is a girl supposedly DL’ing 225 already…I’ve never seen her…must be during the evening hours…cause as far as I’ve seen there isn’t much competition compared to the girls that workout there in the morning.

Oh, and asked if I could a heavy week(4x5) like every three weeks or so, and he approved…YAY!

I have found that it puts me in a sillier mood. That should probably be listed as a side effect - sillyness.

So, how’s the PN stuff going? Is your whole family following it or just you?

Pretty much I’m the only one following it…

Overall, the family eats pretty healthfully…even my almost two year old girl LOOOOVES broccoli and cauliflower. And my son chose an apple over a donut this morning!!..pretty impressive in my book…its taking some changes, mainly on my part to start getting us to eat more healthfully as a whole, and to view ‘junk,’ foods such as cookies, etc as just treats…my daughter isn’t too sure about that though :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

In other news, I lost two pounds since last Friday!! Hopefully they are fat pounds and not just water…I also measured my waist and butt, and lost an inch off each, so I would think it’s a real loss! And it’s also pretty good, cause that TOM is about to show, and I tend to be heavier on the scale…

I don’t think I’ve EVER lost two pounds in a week(not lately anyway, HA!) so I hope this means I’m doing something right, and whatever it is I’m going to keep doing it!! lol…

Congrats! Seeing progress in measurements and on the scale is such a wonderful way to stay motivated.

Another way to stay motivated is to see your lifts go up! :stuck_out_tongue:

I guess I was kind of showing off, but I worked up to 1x2x215(pr!) for the deadlift…There was some girls using the smith machine for squats(without any weight) so I felt macho! LOL!!

My trainer was with another client and I heard him say something and pointed towards me, and they stood and watched…

It makes me wonder how much I could DL if I just loaded the bar and pulled, without warming up!

I tested that theory and at the end of my workout, I benched 115 for three without any warm ups…

I did my cardio like a good girl, and just about died! SOmething else I’m noticing is that Im not really a ‘sweater.’ My face gets all red, and my back gets sweaty, but theres no sweat dripping down my face or anything…weird.

What kind of cardio did you do?

10min walking @3.5-10%incline
15min on the eliptical-level 12 hill

I don’t know if I mentioned this before, but my MIL got me the p90X program for x-mas(I know what you all are thinking) I briefly thought of doing this with the hubby, as he has been wanting to work out FOREVER, but is not very motivated to do it on his own…

we agreed though, that we would just do the plyometrics, karate, yoga, the core synergistics thingy and abs…I like lifting in the gym too much to give it up, and I want him using real weight…he says that he can workout at lunch as long as he tells someone(he’s in the Navy, member?) And I told him to go straight after work.

Truth be told, we have a bowflex that is collecting dust, so he will use that along with the dbs we have if he can’t make it to the gym…I’m really proud of him for FINALLY wanting to start, and I’m putting my foot down this time!! He’s worked out sporadically while on deployment, but nothing ever consistent…

He’s 6’5 and 220(slender!)…he wants to add some size, and have better endurance…the runs he has to do for the PRT were really starting to get hard for him!

Good job on the benching and the DL-ing Betty! The “strongest woman in the gym” comp should be awesome! Hope things are working out with your trainer…
