Just checking in…how are the workouts without the trainer going?
Hey, thanks for checking in!
It’s funny you mention…I haven’t been back to the gym since last Friday! Shopping was my cardio during the weekend
And I must say that today my legs are completely sore-free…After last WED, I could hardly walk for days without them hurting…
But my little one has the most awful boogies oozing from her nose and a hacking cough to boot…I haven’t been able to take her with in the mornings, and the hubby hasn’t been getting home in time so I can go…I’m hoping for today, so I’ll let you know!! ![]()
I talked to my trainer this morning, and he has my program waiting for me…I am meeting up with him later to go over everything, provided the hubby gets home in time…either way Im still going to the gym today, damnit! ![]()
Since the Lean Eating program is not individualized I would still like to have a daily diet log here…but don’t ask me for specifics…I’ve given up counting everything and keeping track of stuff on fitday(for now) I am learning how to eat the way I should for [b]life[b], without having to be tied to a computer ![]()
hey I figure out how to make things [b]bold[b]
![]()
ooooo, I found me a raw PL meet in VA for AUG 2009…
Do you think that’s enough time to get to 165 and train for it?
hmmm…I think it would be FUN!!! And I think it would be good to have a long term goal like that…plus, it wouldn’t look too bad on my ‘life record,’ ![]()
So what would be the first step in actually entering the meet? I assume, emailing the promoter of the meet would be a good start? ![]()
Well, the first step for me is to get this weight down and abiding by this high rep routine(begrudgingly I might add :P) At what point would I look for a lifting coach?
Just send in your entry fee and fill out the meet application, and your in. Check out the website for the federation that is holding the meet for the rules, weight classes etc…
I think that you can meet your weight goals way before then, but don’t worry about your weight class right now, see where you stand next summer. You can always go up or down a few pounds for the meet.
I think it’s a great long term goal. Deal with the immediate for now with your new program and maybe by spring you can start changing your focus to more of a strength program. I really think the key for you is to knock off one goal at a time and STAY FOCUSED. BTW, glad you are not counting numbers anymore, PN is an excellent way to teach yourself how to eat well.
Thank you very much Diana!!
One goal at a time is very important, and for me that is fat loss…
Im just anxious, cause I love love LOVE lifting for strength…these high rep routines and endless cardio sessions SUCK!
But I know now, that I’m not a PL’er, and I shouldn’t have been trying to train like one…![]()
I just got sucked into the whole vibe of this site and that lifting heavy is good…and high rep stuff is not so good for sparring muscle…truth be told, Im still a little confused about that right now, but am just doing what I’m told by my trainer…he’s helped lots of females get there weight down, with more health problems than me, so I am confident…I may not like it, but it won’t be forever…plus, he says I can throw a heavy set of whatever(shoulder press.bench, squats, etc) in the beginning just to see what I can do ![]()
Im off to the gym!
Just remember it’s not always about how heavy the load is. High rep builds endurance but also helps to add cross sectional muscle. In the end, you’ll be stronger for it. Westside programs always include an RE day (repetitive effort). People actively training for PL should have some high rep stuff thrown in too.
Think of your current program not just as fat loss, but as building a foundation for strength. Think in those terms and make it a goal, the fat loss will just be a nice side effect of better performance.
Thanks for that Diana…I feel a bit better now
I bet you make an awesome trainer!!
So Im just back from the gym…my first workout without my trainer, and I did good…
I even added a heavy set at the end of my bench, and got 115 for 3 reps on my own…
I met with MR. T(haha) as I was doing my cardio and we went over my training plan…it’s certainly nothing earth shattering…pretty much your average 4day split…pretty much like the ‘Shut up Program,’ found on this site…I’m pretty peeved that I actually have to pay money for it, but I guess he’s gotta make a living somehow!
So everything is 3x15…the only acception is I asked to be able to do a 3x5 for deads on back day…I surprised him once again, because a)a lot of females he trains don’t like them &b) a lot of females don’t even know what they are!
Also 30min of cardio after each training session…Today I did hill intervals on the upright bike, keeping it above 85rpm…that was fun!
Was finally able to take the little one with me to the gym this morning…she loves all her little friends so much at the childcare there…she used to scream every time, but now she wants to get down right away ![]()
I met a big, bad powerlifting guy…I couldn’t help but watch as he dl’ed 565lbs!!
After I closed my mouth, I introduced myself, and asked if he’s ever trained anyone…he says he is not an official trainer, but he’s helped people prep for meets and what not…He’s been pl’ing for 27 yrs he says, and holds some kind of title here in MD for the DL…he hasn’t competed in a full comp.
in awhile, due to a shoulder injury…He hosts two meets a year at that gym, and said he’d be happy to help me with whatever when I’m ready!
Anywho-today was leg day…I don’t feel as trashed, lol…I think too, because last week I still had a cold but worked out anyway…not fun ![]()
Everyone else is writing in there logs, so thought I would too ![]()
We leave for MI this Sat. for two weeks…two weeks of snow and zero cable TV!
Good ole’ family time…
I will be utilizing the gym they have in town there…
until then I’m finishing up shopping and baking my boo-tah off, and of course going to the gym! Thank goodness it’s an ‘easy,’ week at school!
Just dropping in to say hello! Hope everyone is enjoying there Holiday!
We don’t head home til JAN 2. I am really anxious to get back into the gym, and to get back home…It always feels like we are stuck in a time warp when we are here, lol…life moves very sloooowly.
I’ll be back soon, and ready to start working harder than ever! Summer is only 6 months away! Theres no way Ill be stuck wearing capris again in 90+ heat and humidity…grrr!!
Well, we made it back in one piece!
It’s good to be home…Im really anxious to get back into things …
I have a confession though… I’m not too thrilled about the personal trainer that gave me my routine. He printed it off of Bodybuilding.com and I am supposed to pay him $30 for it!! I really liked him up until that point, lol. When he gave me the routine I didn’t know what to say! If that’s the way he is going to do things, I don’t know if I want to continue working with him…I wonder what the other trainers there do with there clients…I mean, is this the norm???

How’d you figure it out? Are you going to ask him about it? I’m pretty sure it is the norm, but then, I’m a bit of a cynic when it comes to personal trainers.
I hope you had a good holiday!
Although I have to say it is not very original to print a program word for word off a web site, you need to ask yourself if the program is suited to you. After the time you have spend on different sites, you must have seen thousands of programs. Heck, they give out 4 or 5 a week here alone. You can try any of them, for free, but so far you have not hit the right combination. Ask yourself why, with all the info available and self taught techniques, that you have not yet been able to meet or make sustainable progress towards your goal(s). Hiring a trainer is for more than just a program, he needs to follow up on your progress, motivate you, instruct you and kick your ass some.
Trainers are not magicians, before a program can really be dialed in to an individual, we have to see how you progress with the basics, under guidance with follow up. Do trainers have super secret programs stuck up our sleeves that will automatically conform to every clients needs? Certainly not when you’ve worked with the person for one week. But there are some effective movements that when properly executed will work for most. Hence BB.com, T-N countless books etc.
At the risk of repeating myself, follow the instructions of your trainer! If the rest period is 15 seconds, don’t take a minute, use the correct breathing techniques and tempo and stop second guessing everything, it’s holding you back. The worst client you will ever have is yourself.

Because Bodybuilding.com was sprawled across the top of the pages he gave me, lol…
Thanks Diana- I know there is no magic program that trainers hand out, haha…I wish there was!! I was just a little put off is all.

I have to say that is lazy. At the very least he should have his own template, maybe he needs a graphics hook-up.
Still, if the program fits your needs, follow it. Ask him if the 30$ he is charging is for the time he spent researching the net, is it for the free session he gives with every program or is it for telephone/e-mail support? Be straight faced and serious, I think he needs to offer some justification to you.
Did you like working with him before the holidays?
The $30 charged is for him handing me over a program…
I do know that I need to work out more intensely, (training and cardio) and I need to continue to eat well…the key is to do those things consistently(together) 90% of the time, and that is where I am lagging.
I did like working with him before though…it was nice to have someone there telling me I could squeeze one more rep out, even though I didn’t think I could…he’s a good motivator, I’ll give them that ![]()
And if eating and cardio are really the key factor of fat loss, does it really matter how you weight train? I guess that’s where my confusion is…
