A Thought on Deadlift Walks

Has anyone in here tried that? I did the other day, it wasn’t to bad but the only problem is had was the bar position. Im yet to try this but what do you think if it was done with dumbbells?

Or would it just defeat the purpose since you would basically go from dead-lift to Farmers carry

I think Dumbells would be better overall. I mean, I guess you’d lift more with the initial DL using a bar, but how awkward is the walking part? I’ve always alternated my deads using a barbell, and dumbells. While I don’t go crazy heavy on DB’s (never gone above 125’s), I go slower, and actually feel a lot better overall.

Just my thoughts, I’m sure someone with more experience in actual performance training could shed more light.

it was real akward, but if its works better then dumbbells il still do it.

I deadlift walk all the time since I hate lifting the sides up to put plates on, after every set I walk it back to the rack and then have to 10% hang clean it to get it on the rack.

Walking with dumbells is easier, i’m sure you tried it, since your legs don’t hit the front of the bar. I’m sure after doing it you should be able to tell that they are different, with a barbell there is much more strain on your back and shoulders since the weight is in front of you, plus you should be able to dl with more weight. If strength is your quest, you should just mix them up, but with the db you set your walking distance alot longer. For muscle building i’m sure db’s would be better.

It think CW meant it to be a little awkward. Using DBs would just be some sort of modified farmer’s walk.

Another dumb exercise move.

might workout out better with a trap-bar (i think that’s what they are called) if your gym has one

deadlift walks, are awkward, difficult, and very tough. hard to get into a “comfor-zone” or a groove with these. which is the point. i do them every now and then when ifeel my conditioning is low or i feel my mental toughness is lacking. be careful and make sure you handle a load that is reasonable, or you will get hurt. multiple sets of 3-5 reps with 315-350 all i could handle, and i pull over 600 in the “normal” deadlift.
