A Good Book...?

Hey guys what’s a really good book on fitness assessment, consultation and muscle imbalances?

Gray Cook: “Athletic Body in Balance”

I second this.

I will add that I don’t totally buy into everything in the book and I think that the overall philosophy it seems to convey is a little “foo-foo” for my tastes, along with the over-reliance on the core trainer/balance board. However, I will say that it’s fairly thorough and I find myself referring back to it every now and then when dealing with a dysfunctional client.

It doesn’t deal much with cardiovascular fitness/assessment or other aspects of personal training in that manner.

It’s not a book, but I have gotten a lot of use out of Assess and Correct, although it is strictly a corrective exercise program designed to fix muscular imbalances.

Anymore books guys??? I’m still searching!

Might not be what you’re looking for, but Eric Cressey’s Maximum Srength deals a lot with corrective mobility and ironing out imbalences on top of thoroughly covering strength training.

I have both Athletic Body in Balance and Maximum Strength. Both good books. Check out Mike Boyle’s strengthcoach.com. He has a lot of info on how to correct imbalances. haven’t seen assess and correct but am planning on getting it.

FRAMEWORK–by Nicholas DiNubile very thorough examination of body structure and mechanics with very sound practical application to fitness. A great sourcebook, no bs.
