600 Bench Press RAW

The way he did that 405 for 20+ reps made me believe I could just come in after him and warm up too

You know, I just hit 350lbs a month or 2 ago, I see stuff like this and it makes me want so much more. IMO you should get into a meet soon and shock the world(of lifting).

I use to love doing illegal wides but I would never go above 405 with them, but they seem to be irritating my rotator cuff so I haven’t been doing them as much. Close grip is very important the added range of motion plus the increase stress on the triceps is great. I would advise against going to narrow it just injury waiting to happen, around shoulder width maybe some people can get away with a little narrower but that’s it. The main thing is to really focus on keeping those elbows tucked. If your close grip triple goes up you best believe your 1rm standard grip will go up too. One point on close grip is I cant go all the way down to my chest without my shoulders rolling forward so I stop maybe 3 or so inches from chest so its better to not go down all the way then put your shoulder in a compromising position. I haven’t maxed in a while or even done a double I have been doing sets of 3-5 on heavy days but I try to not go to failure I usually have at least one rep left in tank just to prevent chance of injury. Its the risk to reward benefit, squeezing out that last rep at or after failure are responsible for those little shoulder tweaks that set you back a month or two so I rather to some extra work sets to make up for it then increase the chance for an injury. So I really dont know what I could hit I will test it out within the next couple weeks based on my triples I would say 675-700.

Totally amazing strength, just to put these lifts into perspective - I remember seeing Magnus Samuelson performing a double with 600lbs on bench, that same year in the worlds strongest man he beat the rest of the field by quite some distance in the bench event… congratulations on the world class strength.

How strong are the other benchers in your training crew?
Do you plan to enter some competition soon? and what kind of weight are you targeting for a 1rm?
Some of your tips on how you avoid overuse and injury in this post above are gold, please feel free to share any others…

It’s crazy how you are insanely strong but still haven’t competed. Really hope you do in the near future and get your name in the books.

Mr. Spoto’s associates have done a great job creating a stir on the internet about his gym benching.

One of my main jobs as a professional promoter is to put together the match-ups that the gym public wants to see. This is one of the most challenging aspects of promoting in the sport of powerlifting, because the amateur wing of the sport has created a culture where everyone gets to be champion, record holder and/or 1st place finisher when they compete.

Hardcore Powerlifting is also working hard to bring more credibility and popularity to barbell based strength sports. Athletes wanting to be considered among the strongest in the game need to compete on the high profile stages against their presumed peers.

MHP’s Kings of the Bench VI will take place on March 31st at 8 x Mr. Olympia, Ronnie Coleman’s Classic in Dallas, Texas. The sign-up deadline for this competition is next week. Mr. Spoto’s 600 x 6 reps gym video shows that’s he’s in good health and in good shape to lift.

Big Al Davis will cover Mr. Spoto’s $125 entry fee and Al will supply Eric with $300 cash to subsidize his travel costs. Then, if Spoto is able to out bench Davis and the rest of the line-up, he’ll win $1,000 cash from Hardcore Powerlifting (thanks to MHPStrong.com) And if the winning bench is also 720+ pounds, then MetabolicDoc.com will award that winner an additional $1,000 in bonus cash.

The officials for this contest will be Ken Anderson (head official) and Jim Snodgrass of AndersonPowerlifting.com and Ken Dinolfo of Energy Strength & Conditioning. We have two new contest benches; one by Nebula and another by Texas Strength Systems. The bench bar will be an IPF approved Ivanko powerlifting bar and we’ll be using Ivanko Barbell Company brand weight plates and competition collars.

This contest is media sponsored by Bodybuilding.com, Iron Man Magazine, Jeff Everson’s Planet Muscle Magazine and by RxMuscle.com. We’re also bringing in two professional photographers and we’ll have multiple HD video cameras set up on stage. On top of that, The Ronnie Coleman Classic Expo sold over 3,000 general admission tickets to the show last spring so the live audience will be quite sizable on top of the tens of thousands who’ll be watching post-live on the internet.

Big Contest Stages over Gym Comps and Contest Lifts over Gym Lifts

To recap the offer: $300 in travel assistance + $125 waived entry fee + $1,000 for 1st place (no formula) + $1,000 for going 720+ on the bench.

The sign-up deadline is March 7th (mailed in entry forms must be post marked no later than March 2nd.)

Mr. Davis eagerly awaits Mr. Spoto’s reply and we’re all looking forward to seeing what he can do under certified conditions on one of the biggest benchpress stages in the USA.

Sean,

Have you tried contacting Mr. Spoto through his youtube channel (if there is email function or something). I am not sure how often he visits these forums. Definetely curious about how this whole thing pans out…

Our shows are sanctioned by The Hardcore Powerlifting Federation. The Hardcore Powerlifting Federation has been running pro shows since 2006 and we’ve produced competitions at two Olympia Expos, one Europa Super Show and at four Ronnie Coleman Classic Expos.

I think Eric Spoto will compete at one of our future promotions and I hope he does. I’d like to know how much he can raw bench under strict competition and we’ll do our best to recruit the man for one of our Kings of the Bench meets down the road. Anyone else who’d like to bench against Al Davis at this year’s Ronnie Coleman Classic Expo should contact our office this week at 1.503.221.2238.

Wow this is just amazing. Curious see how this shakes out as well.

Bumping this with more awesomeness…
