5/3/1 for Football

It’s here!

I’m not a coach, but am curious in what coaches do think. Also interested in how this compares to DeFranco’s.

Holy shit. I don’t care I bought the other book already i’m sold.

Great read. I argues with Jim for hours about charging more for it. Definitely worth it. The conditioning and warmup stuff alone is worth the price.

Yeah, $25 seems a little low for a proven program.

Yeah. Its 160 pages long. There is some really good warmup stuff as well that Ive stolen and implemented with some of my clients already. He will laugh when he reads about us arguing about the cost of it.

Perhaps it was The Angry Coach. Could swear it was you. Lying fucker.

i wasnt going to get it because i dont play football, but i might for the warmup and conditioning stuff. $25 for a book by wendler and the andry coach seems like theft!

… Which is really just a huge advertisement for Biotest supplements! OMG!!! You don’t think CT got paid for IBB?

Stop being a jackass. There’s nothing wrong with making money.

CT is great I agree, however the money I spent on the original 5/3/1 is the best purchase I’ve made. I have a home gym with a powerlifting theme so this program is ideal. Wendler not only provides great training advice he’s the funniest fucker on the net! I’ll be getting the football version for the conditioning alone.

Jim - an MMA & sport grappling version would be nice to see as well, I don’t know if you have really thought about that.

If I were to do this, I’d have to collaborate with someone who has done the sport/coaches the sport. I have no right telling someone what to do for a sport without actually doing it.

I can appreciate that… Martin Rooney is the first name that comes to mind, but I know that he already has published stuff about MMA and Jiu-Jitsu. I’m currently doing 5/3/1 and train jiu-jitsu for about 8-12 hours per week. Not that that helps you much, but if you are interested I will let you know how it goes for me over the course of the next several months. I am about to go into my second cycle and am enjoying it so far. My first thoughts on the program are that I really like it, however, 5x10 deadlifts and squats absolutely kill me and ruin my ability to train jiu-jitsu like I want to on the days following, so I am going to switch the lower body BBB for conditioning work (right now I am thinking KB swings and burpees on deadlift day, but am not 100% sure what I will do on squat day).

Could you wait about a week before you jack up the price? I just dropped 150 for my cpat tests and Ill have the money to order your book then. PLLLLEEEEASSSSE

25$ for this is stupid cheap. And I’ll probably never train a football team. The program as written is clearly tried and tested, but for me, the principles behind it are where it’s at.

Bought it yesterday and read it today. It fucking rocks. I’m still playing the game (semi-pro) with aspirations of playing College Ball when I get out of the Marines and cant wait to implement it in my training. Also would love to get into coaching and this book will help with a ton. This with the original 5/3/1 might seriously be like the best 45 bucks (or was the original 5/3/1 15 bucks) or 40 bucks you might ever spend.

Part 1:
Just so I can get this shit straight:

Before summer camp there’s ~25 weeks of ‘pre-season’? (as detailed in the book)
Summer camp is 6 weeks.
Season is 17 weeks (16 games + 1 week off?)
This leaves the last 4 weeks of the year (aka. ‘December’).

That’s the basic template?

Part 2:
What is ‘usually’ done at ‘team-practice’ or whatever it’s called? Just playbook stuff? Tackles? Would you count this a purely ‘skill’ or is there a grain of conditioning in it?

As you might have noticed from all the ’ surrounding words, this subject is not one I’m used to, so please excuse any inane questions.

Do I get the impression you’re trying to change it slightly to fit with another sport (maybe rugby)?

If so, let me know what feedback you get. I’m a member of a rugby club and would be interested in some of the ideas if they’re compatible.

Bingo.
