4500 calories eating tofu?

Okay, I read Massive Eating pt 1 and 2. The amount of calories I need per day is 4500 to increase size. How am I supposed to get that many eating egg whites, tuna, low fat cheese and whole wheat bread? I mean, it just seems like I would have to eat about like massive quantities of this stuff to get that many calories. Ideas?

I take it you are some sort of vegetarian?

Gonna be a lot of work with the fork. Protein sources from non “meats” tend to be low in fat, meaning you have to add fats to the meal in order to really add up calories.

Can be done though, 4500 really isn’t that much if spread over 7-8 meals. 550-650 calories each.

Just need to keep on top of it, don’t miss many meal times. Prepare for a lot of chewing

Infinity,

It appears that you grasp, quite well, the concept behind Massive Eating.

Obviously, my friend, if you’re a regular reader of the magazine, then you know that:

  1. Protein should not be your only source of kcals;

  2. Tofu, and other soy products, should also be limited, or even avoided.

I know for a fact that JB and many others have outlined not only excellent food choices but actual meal plans. Take a good look, my friend. Ye who seeketh shall find.

Eat more than 4 things.

I think I speak for all of us here when I say duh.

Hi, there, infin|ty. There’s still more work to do on your plan.

Before we get started, what’s your weight and BF%?

  1. When bulking, go for 1.5g (as high as 2g) of protein per pound of BW.

  2. Carbs should probably come in around 2g per pound of BW too. That’s a good starting point, and depending on your level of activity, metabolism and rate of gain, could be adjusted upwards.

  3. Fat should be a minimum of .5g per pound of TBW.

Carbs and Protein are 4 calories per gram. Fat is 9 calories per gram. What numbers are you coming up with thus far?

Meat.

I’m not really eating tofu, it was simply a substitute for many of the low cal foods on the massive eating plan. I’m 6’4", 200lbs, not positive on my BF %, around 20 I think. Is it okay to eat alot of meat? Let’s say chicken breats and 95% lean hamburger? Could say 3/6 of my daily meals comprise mainly of meats such as hamburger, chicken tuna/salmon? If so, then getting that many calories shouldn’t be too hard. But I mean foods like low fat cheese, nuts, vegetables fruits etc, just don’t pack on the calories.

Sorry to say this, and correct me if I’m wrong here, but it sounds to me like you’re mired in 1980s nutrition. I.e., you’re trying to avoid fat like the plague (and don’t realize that nuts have quite a lot of it).

You can eat meat. And fish. And not just the leanest cuts. It’s okay!

Calculate your dietary needs out on paper, then arrange your meals to fit the numbers you get. If you eat according to ME guidelines AND you eat good foods, you’ll gain quality weight.

Guaranteed.

Eat fatty meat and you can eat 4500 calories a day like it’s nothing. Remember, fat is 9 calories/gram, while protein is effectively less than 4 calories/gram.

Butter your veggies, eat pot roast. 4500 calories is nothing, dude.

I don`t think Massive Eating is a good idea if your BF is 20%.

Agreed.
