Given the attention to recovery in your SSP, what are you thoughts on actually taking time away from the gym? Personally I hate taking planned layoffs because I love to train however could I be shooting myself in the foot but not giving my body more time to rest?
For what it’s worth, I do strategically cycle my intensity over a 3 workout cycle so I’m not training all out every time I hit the gym.
Thank you for your words of advice. Hope this finds you well.
In my article on deloading I actually cited a study that showed over six months there was one group that trained for six weeks, then untrained for three weeks. At the end of six months they made basically the same amount of “gains” as the group that trained consistently for the whole six months. I often take 4-5 days at a time unplanned when I just don’t feel like training and without fail, come back and immediately crush workouts for a while. Don’t sweat this at all. I advise having a schedule to adhere to, but think of it as a guideline and not hard set rules. Rest when you want to rest.
