Your Death

I appreciate the spirit behind this sentiment, and of course each day, each moment could very well be our last. However, any type of reasonable existence is based on the assumption that we will be around for a while.

Who honestly goes to work, takes out he garbage, pays their bills or watches what they eat and otherwise tends to those necessary but not-so-sexy details on their last day on earth?

By living each day like it was your last, I didn’t mean your daily chores and routines. I think that you should treat people, and yourself, like they should be all of the time. I don’t want to be one of those people that has to go around with their “please forgive me” list right before my death. I’d rather treat others well always or just ask for forgiveness right away instead of harboring all sorts of negativity for the rest of my life.

Anyhow, as un-sexy as this may seem, if I knew it were my last day, I’d probably carry on as usual because I wouldn’t want to feel like I had left somebody else my work to do. I would probably eat some ice cream though.

and now I want ice cream thank you very much for that. Normally I don’t keep any in the house either, but we had some extra from last weekend, willpower time?

Might I recommend Ben & Jerry’s Americone Dream?

Ice cream is sometimes the only carb source I allow myself.

I’m more of a Chunky Monkey kind of guy myself.

Also, I absolutely take your point about treating people well and not taking tomorrow for granted as a time to make amends for how you act today.

My point is that, as much as I am a live in the moment type of guy as far as focusing on what ever I am doing moment to moment goes, most of what we achieve in life comes as a result of our ability to delay gratification. Delayed gratification as a concept doesn’t hold up well in the face of imminent death.

I respect the idea of carrying on with your responsibilities until the end, although myself I think I would be inclined to spend time with my family, out in nature somewhere, eating good food, drinking good wine, laughing, dancing, loving etc. until the end came.

Its your own fault if she overeats because you have them on a leash 24/7.

wow, weird placement of my reply within the quote sorry… Chocolate Therapy is the best, since they discontinued Brownie Batter years ago

I would love to know how and when I am going to die. Kind of a stupid question though because if you knew the answer, you could change it so that answer would no longer be the answer.

unless what ever you do to try and change it ultimately leads to your predetermined death;)

Mindfuck!

In answer to the thread’s main question, no, I would have absolutely no interest in learning the date and cause of my death.

As the decades, years, and days approached, I would imagine the sense of urgency and eventually panic you’d feel would override any possible enjoyment of life. That ticking clock would hover over you constantly.

I don’t try to live every day as if it was the last, but I try to make my weeks, months and years count, and I try to make a positive impact on other people. When I’m in my death throes from a threesome-induced myocardial infarction (what I assume will be my cause of death), I want my last thoughts to be along the lines of “shit…I actually did OK in this world”
