Wrist Wraps
Saan wrote:
I have very small wrists (5.5 inches) and am starting to experience some pain when benching heavy; I also have a history of repetitive stress injuries to my wrists. I am looking at the wrist wrap selection on elitefts and having a difficult time choosing. I’ve seen the Metal All-Black Wraps recommended here and elsewhere but they are more expensive than the others and I’m wondering why/if they are worth it. Also I am wondering what size would be best for me–since I am female/have tiny wrists I presume the smaller 60cm wraps would be good for me? Are any of the less expensive wraps recommended? Should I choose the smallest size in whatever wrap I choose? Thanks.

EDIT: While I’m at it, I’m looking for a dip belt for weighted dips too, so if anyone has any recommendations for that as well I’d be appreciative.
Saan, I wouldn’t waste my money on the metal all blacks.

While I have no experience with those wrist wraps, I have used the all black knee wraps and didn’t like them. I’m sure some of the big guys out there love them, but they were too stiff for me.

I’m currently using some Inzer wraps that seem to be about 20 inches and I like them, but I’m not picky and will use whatever wraps are around. I’d recommend about that length, but couldn’t tell you which brand to get.

Wrist wraps…? If you can not hold the weight with out using wrist wraps…you are using too much weight and not using good form…just my opinion but by all means use wrist wraps…your grip will suffer for it and make you hand shake weak and you will not be able to open up that jar your girl askes you too…LOL

WRAPS not straps!

You want wrist wraps to be stiff tho. And in that regard the Metal All Black material works great for the job.

I do have a pair, but I wouldn’t buy another purely based on price not performance.

Get the APT strangulators or convicts. A lot of people are saying they’re the best out there at the moment. Quite cheap compared to the Metal’s too.

I have a pair of all blacks that I like, but they’re not worth the money imo. I’ll be getting a pair of both of the above mentioned wraps to try out next time I’m ordering.
Ditto on the APT wraps. I have both. The material that these are made from is un-fucking-godly- really great wraps for serious weight. However, both pairs I have wrap the wrong way (as compared to the metal or inzer wraps). A small price to pay for kickass support- however, I can’t tell you how many times I have gotten all fired up for a top set, got my shirt crunked, belt set, ammonia cap in my teeth, music cranked- I finish wrapping my wrist and realize the velcro is turned the wrong way. WTF!!!

However, for lighter work and raw work, I prefer a ragged-out pair of metal triple-line wraps I have. Much easier to use.

How does the APT material compare to the Titan THP wraps? I have been thinking about getting a pair of convicts to try for knee wraps but prefer the stiffer material of the THP’s as opposed to the Inzer or Titanium.

The stiffest I have heard off are the metal black wraps. Have never dealt with APT’s stuff though.
Another interesting product on the market is the new inzer wrist and knee wraps:

They should have better velcro securing mechanism and rubber on the outside.
I have heard to reviews on them, one positive (said the where really stiff if wrapped hard) and the other negative (he felt they where a bit slippery and where nothing special).

I may try them out when I am going into my next meet, but I can try them out in perosn first, and I am a gear whore.

If you think the blacks are stiff I would wager you have not felt a new pair of THP’s. I think the blacks suck, frankly and am unimpressed with Metal’s wraps as a whole.

Of course stiff is good. I’m just saying that I didn’t really like the feel of them. Definetly not saying they’re bad, just that I wouldn’t get them. It seems that APT has some awesome wraps that are a bit more cost effective.

I have used convict knee wraps (not the stragulators yet though) and I would say that they are stiff like a new pair of THP’s- only more so. There is also a lot of rubber in the wrap. It kind of feels like wrapping a green jump-stretch band around your knee.

Alright. I’ll order a pair or two. Thanks

Just got off the phone with EFS and was told the Strangulators are probably what I want. Will order this evening. If I remember to I will let you guys know what I think.

Thanks guys. I think I am going to go with the APT Convicts. I already had my eyes on the maroon and black stripy ones since I think they look pretty cool. And we all know how important looking cool is. 12" sounds rather short (longer wraps=more support, right?) so I think I will go with the 24" to be safe.

Sorry about resurrecting an old silly argument; I wasn’t sure of the etiquette on this forum regarding whether to start a new thread or post in the old appropriate one.
