Would You, Quintus? Would I?

Arm wrestling seems like it’s all technique. My nephew [who’s 21 and 10-15lbs less than me] beat me so bad I pulled a hamstring. I’m being completely serious. 5lbs of steak is no joke, dude. Where in TN are you? A buddies dad lives in Nashville and tells me it’s one of the coolest cities in the country. Says it’s like Austin with less yuppies, hippies and gutter punks. Plan on visiting in the next year.[/quote]

I live in Knoxville. It’s like Nashville with less yuppies, hippies, and gutter punks lol. I like Nashville and Austin both though. The only problem with Knoxville is the air quality.

Yeah good job on the steak bro! THat’s the sign of a true man right there.

This is what my friends and I reinacted, except with a bit more steak. We accidentally bought an extra 2lbs, so… gotta do what you gotta do.

Back in Knoxville. My right bicep is definitely injured. It’s just a strain I’m sure. It was hurting today, and when I went to the gym, gripping the bar for squats was painful and loading the weights was excrutiating. Hopefully it’s feeling better by Wednesday.

The Last thing I said before arm wrestling big Steve was “I don’t like arm wrestling; someone always gets hurt.” At least it was a good show though. It was a pretty long struggle, and we attracted a small crowd of fans lol. I have a large bruise on my elbow where my arm was on the table from the amount of force being driven into it.

I feel like one day I will be doing something in the gym and my right bicep will just snap off and roll up into my shoulder like someone letting go of the end of a tape measurer. Hopefully that’s a long ways off.

Well anyway those kinds of thoughts ruined my state of mind during today’s training.

Cycle 3, week 1
9/17/2012

Squats:
135 5x
225 5x
290 5x
310 5x
330 5x These felt absolutely wretched. I am probably not fully recovered from my little vacation and a bit psyched out by the bicep.

Squats:
225 10x
225 10x
225 10x
225 10x
225 10x These actually started to feel great! I did the opposite of what I think you’re supposed to do. I did a lot more forward lean, fired out of the hole with my butt first and then followed with my upper body. Sort of like a squat morning… I dunno it felt really easy.

SLDL:
205 10x
205 10x
205 10x
205 10x
205 10x

Decline situps with weight behind the head:
10 10x
25 8x still a bit too hard
10 10x
10 10x
10 10x I did this set at lightning speed, and it felt like nothing. They had Monday might football on at the gym, and I was in a furious berserker rage after Peyton threw an interception.

Started out mad about squats, ended up pretty okay with how the BBB sets went.

Cycle 3, week 1
9/19/2012

Press:
45 5x
95 5x
135 5x
135 5x
150 5x Bicep is pumped and sort of in pain. It now hurts in the upper part as well as the lower.
170 1x

Press:
135 10x
135 10x
135 10x
95 10x
95 10x Bicep really only hurts at the bottom.

Shrugs:
225 5x
315 5x
405 5x
405 5x
405 5x These felt okay on the arm. Stopping at this weight though.

Chin ups between sets. I did all of these with a palms facing away wide grip to minimize bicep usage. These actually felt okay on the arm while I was doing them. Not really afterwards though. Taping and icing time.

Oh I also ran a 9 minute mile after the workout today! That is a huge fucking deal for me. I havent run farther than like 15 yards in literally years.

Cycle 3, week 1
9/21/2012

Well when it rains it pours. I came down with a potent upper respiratory infection, but obviously I staggered into the gym like any powerlifter would.

Deadlifts:
135 5x
225 5x
275 5x
315 5x
365 5x
405 5 x This set was really hell. I could feel how weakened I was from illness, not to mention I started getting a shooting pain in my palm from the bicep injury on this set. I barely made it; 405 felt depressingly difficult.

Well that’s it. The log is basically a cry baby fest, but stay tuned next week for hopefully more lifting and less whining!

Do you get major DOMS after a leg workout like that? I think I’d be crawling out of bed if I did that!

Even you on your worst day would be twice as much as anyone I’ve ever seen in the gym, ha!

Feel better soon!

It wasn’t nearly as bad as it seems like it should have been now that I go back and look at what I actually did on paper lol. I definitely walked around like an old man for a while though.

Thanks

Cycle 3, week 2
9/22/2012

Bench:
135 5x
185 5x
225 5x
250 5x
265 8x I think 9 would have been a record breaker for me, but actually I am quite pleased. I am still a bit sick, and also, bench hurt my bicep worse than anything else. So all things considered, I’m happy with this.

Dumbbell bench:
70’s 10x Hurts the bicep too much. More than freakin pull ups for some reason lol.

Pull ups like 5 sets of 10.

Decline situps with a 10 behind my head for 3 sets of 10.

Some skullcrushers for 3 sets of 10 with like a hundred pounds or so.

Stopped there. I am going to give my bicep a proper rest until Wednesday. Should be feeling back to 100% by then. Even after stressing it probably too much today it is feeling better than it was a couple days ago.

9/23/2012

Ran another 9 minute mile and did some back raise things 5 sets of 20. I also did some regular laying on the ground situps. I did 50, but barely. After that I would literally try to do a situp, and my body would just stop halfway and fall back to the ground.

I hate endurance.

Strong benching man

ps. Hope your biceps feels better soon.

In concur re; endurance! If it takes longer than 3 minutes, it’s not worth doing! And that includes Swedish bikini models.
But good on you for putting yourself through hell anyway.

Thanks you two!

Cycle 3, week 2
9/24/2012

Squat:
135 5x
185 5x
225 5x
310 3x
330 3x
350 3x Felt okay I guess. It seems like I see other people upping their squat numbers a lot easier than I can for some reason. Squats always feel impossible to me.

Squat:
225 10x
225 10x
225 10x
225 10x
225 10x This was as grueling as it looks on paper.

Fuck this, fuck everything:
1x walking out of the gym and going home, because I was spent.

Cycle 3, week 2
9/26/2012

Press:
140 3x
150 3x
160 6x This was okay I guess. Eight or nine would have been great.

Press:
115 10x
115 10x
115 10x
115 10x
115 10x Bicep is doing okay. It’s a little more pumped than it probably should be, but that’s all.

Close Grip Bench:
205 10x Now these hurt my bicep still
205 10x Fuck this, goin down
185 10x
185 10x
185 10x

Shrugs:
315 5x
405 5x
495 5x
495 5x
495 5x I had the pins set too high on this and it was kinda screwing me up. Making a note for next time.

Pullups between sets
10 sets of 10
These felt pretty fine on the bicep.

Ran around a 9 minute mile. My legs felt like they were going to seize up and become locked. They were still very tight and sore from Monday’s squats. Also I’m not staying on top of my stretching and rolling like I should.

After the workout I didn’t have any bicep pain whatsoever, despite a bit of discomfort on close grips. I think it is pretty much healed as it feels back to normal now.

Cycle 3, week 2
9/28/2012

Deadlift:
135 5x
225 5x
315 5x
365 3x
405 3x
420 3x Decided not to max out on reps. I really don’t like doing high rep deadlifts.
455 1x
475 1x Kinda harder than usual.

Well that was it for today; I had some things I had to take care of that I hadn’t had a chance to earlier because this is a crazy busy time of year at work.

Cycle 3, week 3
9/29/2012

Bench:
135 5x
185 5x
225 5x
250 3x
280 1x
315 1x
335 1x Nothin quite like a bench PR! Was a pretty smooth rep too, not overly difficult.

JM Press:
135 10x Never, ever done these before. Felt pretty weird, I’m not sure I was doing them right.
135 10x
135 10x
135 10x
135 10x

Pull ups bout 100 total

Dips bout 100 total

Ran mile at 9 min pace. Fucking running is getting harder not easier for some reason.

Congrats on your bench PR quintus and 335 is beastly man

Also your volum is sick, I cant understand how you are able to do a total of 100 chins.
