lol okay from now on I think I’ll call it “inner leg overpowering”. That sounds way cooler than knee caving.

I’d be stoked to find a contest that had a 200lb division. I figured most of them would only have heavyweight, 230lb and under, and maybe a 175 class.[/quote]
I am genuinely upset at you Chris J Fry… The contest DOES have a 200 class! The caveat is…it requires atleast 5 competitors in that division otherwise it’s merged with 231 LW. But HEY! You seem to be up for contention with me and some of the other guys. You only live a state over…
Mind you once you cross to the dark side, there is no turning back.
Join us Chris.
Forever…and ever…and ever…
Looking pretty swole in dat pic there. Nice shoulders!

I’ll check it out, srs.
Strongman’s not the true darkside though. I can’t say I haven’t thought about it… But not yet.
And thanks MM!
Came in to say looking joocy in the new avi.
Also could you say more about the BTN press? Are you standing? How low behind your head do you go? How wide is your grip? And finally do you do it just because it’s cool, or you find a lot of carryover to the big 3?
I’m going to miss that avatar.
Good luck finishing up with your meet prep
LOL, I see you took my “When do you go to bed?” question seriously. I fucking lol’d. DAT VAGUE NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN REFERENCE! ![]()

Ahahahaha! I haven’t seen that movie in so long. I tell you what though there are two movies I can pretty much quote exactly from beginning to end: Jurassic Park and Gladiator

I do them seated. I take a bench grip; ring finger on the ring. The leverages in btn press require a wider grip than regular pressing.
I go down to about my ears I think. I do it because it’s something I had left out for years, and it is a fantastic shoulder builder. I feel it much more in the rest of my delt besides just the front one, and my front delts are usually pretty fried from bench so that’s a plus. I do believe it will have carryover to bench press; more than a few big benchers are advocates of the movement.
And lastly and most importantly, because Ed Coan said so.

5/27/2013

55 10x
145 5x
235 5x
285 2x ruh roh… I could tell here that it was gonna be a rough day lol. VERY slow
325 2x
365 1x
405 1x Real slow like I expected, but at least I hit it. I’ll just go for this as my second attempt at the meet.

Dang, you should of breathed some fire while frantically looking for it. And occasionally yelling “Where is my damn FAT GRIPZzZ!?!?”/
5/29/2013
Bench:
45 10x
95 10x
135 8x
185 5x
225 5x
275 3x
295 1x
315 1x
335 1x ! paused PR here. I didn’t even know it was 335 until afterwards. I thought it was 325. Love dat ninja PR. This will be my third attempt at the meet. In general I am against hitting your third attempt in training… but it was an accident.
Anyway that felt nice after how training has been going the last couple weeks. It was actually a pretty good bench day. I felt strong for the first time in a while. One thing I should mention, I used to do band pullaparts and some shoulder dislocations pretty much every day. I had sort of forgotten about that in recent times. After last week’s bench, I got consistent with those again. First time I did a band shoulder dislocation last week I heard CRACK CRACK CRACK CRACK in both shoulders lol. Felt really good afterwards. Something was all impinged and bound up in there I guess.
Close Grip Bench:
315 1x omg epic grind. dat slow twitch muscle.
Did a backdown set, regular grip, with 225 for 15 reps. Feet out, butt off, bouncing, I don’t give a shit it’s a goddamn backdown set with 225.
Incline Bench:
225 1x
255 1x
275 0x It wasn’t a bad fail, but my spotter had to help me get through the sticking point. Not surprising I was burnt out given the shit I did before this.
Flys:
35’s 10x
40’s 10x
45’s 10x
50’s 10x
50’s 10x
50’s 10x I’m all about flys now. This felt like a pretty good weight to do 3 sets of 10 with. I don’t necessarily feel this in my pecs as much as I think I should. As a matter of fact I don’t really know where I feel these, they just sorta happen.
Did a little circuit at the end with one of my training partners. Calf raises 20x, hanging leg raises 10x, hyperextensions 10x for three cycles.
HEY SPOCK!
It must have been RHCP day at the gym or something. They played Red Hot Chili Peppers literally the entire time I was there.
295:
315:
335: Paused PR
315 close grip paused PR: I swear to God the spotter never touched this. I could see his hands the whole time. And trust me he’s not the type to lay a finger on the bar unless it is plummeting back towards your face. I love grinding reps. They say it’s not good for your training though. I dunno; I think it’s fun.
225 backdown set:
5/31/2013
Deadlift:
135 5x
225 5x
315 3x
405 1x beltless double-overhand no chalk PR wearing a red shirt maybe?
455 0x aw I was SUPER close to pulling this double overhand too. It started rolling downwards about halfway up my thigh.
495 1x Felt easy, smooth, and fast. No hitch. Pissed that I forgot to film it actually, I would have liked to take a closer look at my setup and the bar path and whatnot given how good the rep felt. It slowed down a little bit in the usual lockout sticking point, but nothing very bad at all. Obviously this isn’t a very spectacular weight for me. This is kind of that weight that I feel like I can hit anytime, anywhere 100%.
Not where I wanted to be on my deadlift at this point. I was hoping my “anytime, anywhere” deadlift would be up to like 525 by now so that I could attempt a 540 or something at the meet, but live and learn I guess. I didn’t like how my deadlift training went. It’s weird how easy 495 felt today compared to having to hitch 515 last week. I think something that helped me out this time was just getting out of my own head and going at it. The more I think the worse I tend to perform.
Hyperextensions:
Did like 3 sets of 10 against an average band.
BONUS ARM ROUND
My training partner has a bodybuilding friend who goes to the Rush commercial gyms (he’s sponsored and they pay him to work out in places like that while he wears their stuff so he can give them lots of exposure lol).
Anyway, we went with this guy to train arms. He’s about 150 and nearly contest ready (he has a show soon). He’s like 5’7" or so. Ripped to shreds, the dude looks awesome. So training arms with a guy like that was a very cool, very different experience.
It was like an hour long arm workout, but we packed way more exercises in there than I ever would have alone. Very high intensity training. Rest times under a minute, everything 4 sets of 12 reps, and most importantly everything had about a 3 count eccentric portion of the lift. He did a slow negative on literally everything. Time under tension was pretty high. I had never trained anything like that before, but let me tell you my biceps were fucking smoked. I got a whole new respect for this kind of training.
I will do my best to remember what all we did, but I’m probably forgetting like a million things lol. We did a shit load of stuff.
EZ Bar Curls:
4 sets of 12-15
Tricep Pushdowns:
4 sets of 12-15
Incline Seated DB Curls:
4 sets of 8-12
Skullcrushers + Close Grip finisher:
4 sets of 12-15
DB Preacher Curls:
4 sets of 10 regular reps and 5 slow negatives
Reverse Grip Pushdowns (unilateral):
4 sets of 12
Cross Body Hammer Curls:
4 sets of 10
Standing Tricep DB Press:
4 sets of 10-12
Pullups:
6 sets of 8-10 rotating 3 grips
Like I said, everything was done like really slowly and controlled and rest times were usually around 50 seconds. Really interesting way to train.
When is the meet?

June 15. Down to the home stretch. Gonna try and get 425, 335, and something in the low 5’s depending on how the pulls feel.
Solid. Weight class?
What’s your plan for this coming week?

I’m a 198.
Gonna squat heavy on Monday, bench heavy on Wednesday, and then just hit some light weights and deload. My last heavy deadlift was yesterday.
