I thought about takin pictures of myself bashing a prostitute’s head in and burying her out in the middle of the desert. There’s more than a few CSI episodes about that.

I didn’t though. Promise.

Csulli, what do you think about the carryover for the press and the bench? For myself the press seems to have as much carryover as a one legged quarter squat off of balance ball does to the squat as it does to benching. I see a lot of the ‘thick and stocky’ lifters say that the press is great for increasing the bench and also love inclines. [/quote]

Yeah man it must not be too fuckin much. My bench keeps feelin great, and my press keeps feelin like total fuckin garbage. I love strongman type stuff too, and I can’t do a damn push press with a respectable weight to save my life. Not to mention most of those strongmen say shit like “I ain’t benched in over three years”.

So yea. They’re about as useful for your bench as calf raises as far as I can tell. I still wanna get good at pressing though.

Sheiko Week 2 Day 3
2/1/2013

Squat:
200 4x
245 4x
285 3x
285 3x
305 3x
305 3x
305 3x
305 3x
305 3x
305 3x I’m gonna try and upload a video of some squats in a bit. Somethin I’m doin is fuckin up my knees. My right knee was killin me. I must be comin forward on my toes, or it could be the fact that my knees cave in all the time. I’m gonna try and work on keepin my knees out on the way up. The last thing I need is wrecked knees before I’m 30.

Bench All Reps Paused:
185 6x
215 5x
255 4x
255 4x
275 3x
275 3x
295 2x
295 2x These felt STRONG. So strong in fact that on my last rep of 295 I was just bullshittin cuz I thought that shit was soooo easy. Well it got WAY out of the groove. Right arm came way out over my face (my right shoulder is the less good one). It was pretty fucked up, but I was able to muscle it up to lockout. Which is fortunate cuz I didn’t have a spotter. I usually have one though.

275 4x Gym was closin early so I did the rest of bench as basically one big drop set lol. Fast as hell.
255 5x
215 6x
185 7x

I drove to the commercial gym which is only a couple minutes away to finish my workout.

Squat:
225 3x
275 3x
305 2x
305 2x
305 2x
305 2x Kept my knees pushed out more. Was better I guess.

Did 2 sets of 10 supinated grip chinups.

I had a very unusual yet insatiable urge to use kettlebells for something. So I grabbed the 50lb kettlebells and did a couple sets of 10 curls. I don’t like kettlebells.

Eh no squat vid I guess. I recorded it with Coach’s Eye and now I have no fucking clue how to view it except through the app…

Of limited usefulness if you ask me.

I guess it is mostly what you are strong at. At one point when my press was at its strongest to my bench there was only a 15 pound difference. For me the bottom half is no where close to a weakness, I can go from chest to about six inches off the chest without much effort then slow down an inch or two inches above that and then it is just one very very long strain.

It may help someone with short little T rex arms who hardly trains the shoulders, I think Jim wendler has said he was weak as fuck with the press and it helped his bench to train it.

Decline Skullcrushers:
110 10x
110 10x
110 10x I’m pretty sure the actual name for this lift is the “lying French press”. Staggeringly less badass.

Today was a great day at the gym. I made all my lifts, but it was a lot more than that. The atmosphere in the gym today was just perfect. It’s not a big fancy gym. Just a simple place with lots of iron. There were six of us in there powerlifting this evening. The speakers were blasting metal. There was chalk dust in the air. The deadlift bar was literally covered in blood and chains. Everyone did squats at some point, three of us held down the bench, and four of em deadlifted. Heavy weights all around. The whole night was just filled with powerlifting.

LOL, I remember once, I was doing push jerks in a gym with a really bent bar (idiots loaded it with like 600lbs or some shit and it’s one of those cheap bars) and I missed a 315 jerk cause of the bar, and I pushed it far forward and i ended up dropping the bar into the catching bars and evryone looks at me, and in a rage i toss the 45s off the bar and they go flying/rolling all over the place until 135 remains on the bar in which i half clean it up, no collars, move it to another rack to get a new bar, and the remaining plates shoot off the bar at like 30 mph and there’s just 6 45 plates spread across the gym and im thinking in my head: “what in the fuck just happened.”

Ah, good times.

Sheiko Week 3 Day 2
2/6/2013

The gym got a new deadlift bar. I’ve never used one before, and I was really excited to try it, so I broke Sheiko training protocol today and sort of did my own thing on deadlifts.

Deadlift:
135 5x
225 5x
315 3x
405 2x
455 1x
495 1x
495 1x Felt great coming off the floor. Still have a bad sticking point right above the knees. I mean I hit a brick wall HARD. At this weight I can still lock it out without hitching. Honestly though I could get a silly amount of weight out of a hitch. I need to fix my deadlift so that my lower back is arched the whole time so I can drive my hips through instead of locking it out with my entire back rounded and then having to straighten my spine under load.

18" Pulls Against Quaded Minibands:
135 5x
225 5x
315 1x Woah lol.
275 3x
275 3x
275 3x
275 3x Powerlifter at the gym set this up for me and said it should help to fix my lockout. Felt good. I’d like to do more of these.

Bench Press All Reps Paused:
45 10x
135 5x
185 6x
215 5x
245 4x
245 4x
275 3x
275 3x
290 2x
290 2x On the last rep of this I tweaked my neck very badly. Still hurts quite a bit this morning. Not sure why that happened. I guess I’ll have to be more cognisant of my head position when I’m doing bench. Anyway I took a fucking long time trying to stretch and roll and lax ball it and such. I strongly considered just leaving; that’s how fucked up it felt. But in the end I decided to finish out bench.
275 3x
275 3x
255 4x
235 5x
215 6x
205 7x
185 8x

Left after that though. I would have liked to do more deadlifting, but I dunno. It was getting late since I took so long stretching my neck and I didn’t want to fuck it up any more deadlifting. That’s what I told myself anyway. I also just wanted to go home and play the new Skyrim dlc that they finally released for PC.

Sheiko Week 3 Day 3

Bench Press All Reps Paused:

290 2x
290 2x

290 2x Felt fine. Got a vid of one of the sets. Pretty sure that’s the first time I’ve videoed my bench.

Squat:
45 10x
135 5x
205 5x
245 5x
285 5x
285 5x
305 4x
305 4x
305 4x
305 4x
305 4x These were pretty brutal at first. My first set of 285 felt like a ton for some reason, but actually after I got going the sets seemed to get easier and easier. The final set of 305 wasn’t too bad.

185 6x
215 6x
215 6x
235 6x
235 6x
235 6x
235 6x Smoked. My chest is feeling great lately. I barely took any rest, and all the sets were so explosive. This was good speed work. The weight was moving fast as hell.

Pullups:
5 sets of 10

Hyperextensions:
10x
10x
15x
20x
20x

Dumbbell Incline Bench:
50’s 8x
50’s 8x
50’s 8x Tried to do these really slowly and contract hard and mind muscle connection and time under tension and all that other voodoo bullshit.

This is one of the middle sets of 290. It’s at super speed obviously.

Fuck you TNation.

Csulli, have you ever considered benching shirtless? I like to do it like that so I can dig myself into the bench more, get a better arch, and I seem to be able to get a better leg drive.

Didn’t know you logged

I bet you’re 100% right. I actually do have one of those old Gold’s Gym “t-bar” tanktops where the back is mostly open and the skin contact does aid with bench tightness. I should wear that shirt more often now that I think about it. I can tell all the multi-ply guys that’s my bench shirt lol.
