Current this is how I plan to train.
Session 1 �?? Work up to 3 rep Max for deadlift and bench press
Session 2 �?? Speed work
Session 3 �?? Work up to 5 rep Max for squats and bench press.
I am confused about the best way to work up to a 3 rep max and 5 rep max. For discussion�??s sake, let�??s assume that 90% of my 1 rep max corresponds to my 3 rep max.
That�??s how I work up to my 3 rep max in session 1
1 rep at 80%
1 rep at 85%
1 rep at 90%
2 rep at 90%
Then I go all out on my last set. If I can do more than 3 reps, then next week I increase the weight otherwise the weights stay the same as I continue the work a 3 rep max
And as to how I work up to 5 rep max in session 3, I follow something similar to Bill Starr�??s 5X5
5 reps at 55%
5 reps at 65%
5 reps at 75%
Then in my last set at 85%, I go all out and if I can do 7 reps. Then I increase the weight next week. Otherwise the weight stays the same.
Am I doing this correctly ?
