Anyone out there know’s how I can strap some bands to my shoulder as I try to sprint? Also, anyone know what “Woody bags” are? Thanks
What I do is use two light bands, loop one around a fixed object, I use a field goal post, and tie that end to the other band then wrap it around your waist. I’d think wrapping it over your shoulder would hurt a little more.

Why would you want to use bands for sprinting?

LOL
In all honesty bro, I REALLY don’t think that is a good idea.
Get a parachute, sled, or tire. Most people don’t realize that getting faster first involves getting stronger. Get strong.
Band sprints are great if you don’t have a place to run. Just tie off a band to a pole or something else, maybe a power rack with all the weights on it. Get the band around the object, and then place the band around your waist while you’re inside it.
Ross Enamait recommends band sprints.
Loading and exercise with bands/weight=good
Mimicking a sport specific movement i.e golf swing, baseball swing/ pitch with a load/bands=bad as it can ruin your mechanics of the movement.
Many, many, many people smarter than me(how f’n hard is that) have covered this subject before but with actual scientific details and stuff. Google this site for it, I wouldn’t lie. Wrong , yes. Lie, no.

Well gosh-darnit, I better get band sprinting now that I know Ross recommmends 'em.
(jesus freakin christ, man: whose word are you more inclined to take-- some chump like Enamait or the world-class coaches on here who have discussed the problem of adding resistance to certain movements because it messes with your motor patterns?)

If Ross is training for boxing why would it matter if he had good sprint mechanics?

I think much of it is dependent on the load used. For example, punching with one pound weights won’t interfere with your mechanics.
If sprinting is your game, even running with sleds and chutes will supposedly have a negative impact on your form.
Ross is about boxing and conditioning. So band resisted sprints fit the bill for what he is trying to accomplish.
Wait a minute??? You have access to bands… but not a place to run. Do you live in Antartica? Go run on the street. If you are really interested about adding resistance get a tire or a friggin parachute.
Bands mimic a strength curve. As far as I know there is no noticeable strength curve in sprinting.
This conversation shouldn’t even be happening because I can’t imagine someone looping a band around their waste and attempting to run…

Weather can stop a person from running outdoors. It can be icy, too hot, or there could be three feet of snow.
I don’t think the reader was interested in becoming a sprinter. I think he is more interested in sprinting for the conditioning benefit it offers.

Hmmm…Are you saying that T-Nation is the only place one should gather information regarding physical training from? While T-Nation is an EXCELLENT resource, there are other things out there that also work.
T-Nation is a predominatley a bodybuilding/powerlifting site. Believe it or not, it is not the best resource for MMA/Boxing/Grappling/Combat training.
Ross Enamait a chump? Please. Ross is a great guy and he’s always willing to help people, for free, like many of the contributor’s on this site. Just because he isn’t a contributer for THIS site doesn’t make him a chump. I suppose Martin Rooney is a hack also. He hasn’t submitted articles for T-Nation either. He must be a bumb!
Before you make a post slamming someone, you should at least know who they are, and what they are about.
Here’s a link for a video of Ross training:

People on this site need to take a step back, and not take everything every author on this site says like it’s the friggin’ Gospel.
There is a site that specialises in bands for sprints but I can’t find the link … the bands are bungee style, have a mesh cover to protect them and you, and are really really long. They provide resistance against you as you sprint. Some instead are used ahead of you to speed you up … you can even use them when swimming.

Good post.
See, I said to research this further and so I did just that. I called Charles Staley this morning and asked him specifically about this and he more or less said that yes, adding weight/resistance can screw things up a bit on the mechanics of the particluar movement but go a bit deeper in to the question and ask is that going to make a difference to you?
Unless you are a competitive sprinter/athlete that requires you to be a very effective sprinter then go ahead and use the bands. He also stated that javelin, shot put and discus throwers will train will heavier than normal implements they are not that much heavier. For example a 17 or 18 pound shot instead of the 16 pounder used in competition.
That Charles Staley dude is pretty smart. Maybe he should due this fitness/training thing for a living. ![]()

Yeah, I hear he even likes overhead pressing. He definitely has some potential.
